Tom Kirk: Palace v Wolves

Haven’t seen the game but two key incidents for Kirk. Great
piece of refereeing for the Wolves penalty, playing advantage on
the possible dogso to allow the penalty foul to happen.
Second yellow for Krejci not so good, was very soft imo

Given the PGMO openly admit the bar for a second caution is much
much higher, I’m not sure he’ll be entirely backed for that one.
I actually applaud him for taking the stance he did on the
incident and delaying the restart but I don’t think that one
will go down too well with the PGMO.
Agree about the first incident, very well refereed in that
situation.

Two interpretations to Krejci‘s second yellow.
First one is he’s booted the ball away to prevent a quick throw
in. Palace didn’t have huge numbers forward, though did he know?
Second one is he genuinely didn’t hear the whistle in time and
was attempting to kick the ball upfield to defend.
I’d be tempted to give the benefit of the doubt here, the kick
happened literally seconds after the whistle, but referee
certainly isn’t wrong to have the first interpretation.
Interestingly, reaction on social media is more against the
first yellow than the second. There wasn’t a huge amount of
contact for the first yellow, but could see why it was given at
full speed.

How long does he need? The one thing that referees have been
consistent on this season is cautioning for kicking the ball
away. Its an action that can be seen by anyone and cannot be
ignored without damaging the referee's authority.

For a second yellow that was incredibly harsh as there was an
element of doubt to it. Will Hughes got away with a second
yellow in the first half, probably on the higher threshold basis
so Kirk had set his stall out on that basis.

Through gritted teeth perhaps as a Palace fan, but I agree
entirely, it was harsh, as I don't think Krejki necessarily
realised that the ball was out for a throw in, with his eyes on
clearing the ball upfield rather than disputing the referee's
whistle. In my view, Mr Kirk should have given himself a bit
more time to think before producing the yellow card.

Refreshing again from Kirk, who displayed the standards which
refereeing should be at.
I compare refereeing in 25/26 to Rugby refereeing and in rugby
players get sin binned and sent off and there is no real query
on infringement of the law, why has football got so technical
that we now have stripped refereeing down now to having 3 match
supervisors at a gwne, the art of football refereeing has gone
now, there are no personalities and imo the skill has completely
gone and we are in a terrible position content to the PR the FA
might feed out.
