A MARRINER - Newcastle v Liverpool

I thought that deliberate handball on the line is a penalty and
a red card. Surely the play has to instantly stop and that
sanction enacted on and the goal disallowed.
Ironic that Alexander Arnold swings in a cross to make it 2-1.
I don’t think this will be the last of the comments on this
incident.

He’s either not seen it or delayed the whistle and subsequently
Newcastle scored. The Liverpool player on the goal line that
deliberately handled the ball should have still received a
caution though.

Assuming he’s seen it it’s great refereeing to play advantage
and give the goal. Ideal situation is to not signal incase they
miss the opportunity and you wanted to give the initial handball
and red card sanction. I expected a caution afterwards though

My money is on he didnt see the handball as he didnt caution
afterwards.

I’m with you on that as well, but I’m saying that I’m surprised
any of the other three officials whispered in his ear he should
have cautioned.

Options are penalty/red card or goal/yellow card - the fact
there was no yellow card suggests the officials missed the red
card (so probably got a bit fortunate!)
I think that most referees would have given the goal in that
situation but I think I would generally prefer a penalty/red
card in that situation if I was the attacking team, especially
if the first half of a game. I guess it depends on the context.

I've said this before for similar incidents but I do think that
Milner should have got two yellow cards at once, one for a
reckless tackle on the halfway line that Marriner played
advantage from and then stopping a promising attack just outside
the penalty area.
If they had happened in separate spells of play five minutes
apart, I am pretty sure each would have received a yellow card.

I think giving the goal rather than penalty/red is the right
call tbh even if he saw it tbh, but agree with comments above
that of he had indeed seen it and given the goal, a yellow card
should have followed.
Views on the foul for Liverpool third goal? I just can't see a
foul in there. The cameras only had a view from behind the two
players, whilst the assistant was in the other side of them, so
it may be that there was something the cameras didn't pick up
that the assistant did, but it looks soft to say the least and,
again, it has affected the result of the game and potentially
the title race.

I am not convinced Marriner has seen the use of the arm so has
been helped out immeasurably by Newcastle scoring.
The free kick was more a combination of an initial coming
together and a player losing his balance. Not a foul IMHO, but
neither was it a dive or deliberately won
