Surely as VAR can intervene in (possible) cases of Violent
Conduct, they could have done so in this case. It was a "strong
push" to the upper chest. Certainly a yellow, but the level of
force could have justified a red; so not one for VAR to
intervene, even if it could!
I cannot be alone, however, in getting thoroughly fed up with
players either faking or over-exaggerating contact with the sole
aim of getting a decision and / or a further sanction.
Examples from last night:
~ Early in the game an Arsenal player went down after a
challenge, screaming and waving his arms around. Nothing was
given and - a few seconds later Arsenal had regained possession
and were attacking - his recovery from someone at death's door
to someone doing a fair impression of Usain Bolt was remarkable.
~ Towards the end of the game a player went down holding his
head, requiring the referee to stop the game. Again, his
recovery was Lazarus-esque and he did not want to leave the
field of play. He was either faking it or really injured. I
know where my money rests.
~ The post-match incident (above) saw the "victim" clutch his
face after being strongly pushed in the chest.
These players ought to be embarassed of their actions, but they
have no shame - and "the game" does nothing to stop them. The
game does not want its referees to deal with this because it
might result in more of their "star products" being sidelined
through suspension.
There is a way to stop this. If only there was the will.

Is it any wonder that I have stopped watching Premier League
games with a few exceptions I should add. Keepers going down
feigning injury, players holding their head before they hit the
ground as per last night, tactical time wasting. Ironically,
Wolves got their winner in injury time! Some form of karma.
Watching Arsenal is like watching Netflix - you are always left
waiting for the next season! (Quote from a former Arsenal
player, I couldn't think of anything so amusing)

Jesus was incredibly petulant - frustration at giving away a
costly lead that the Arsenal players should take full
responsibility for. But not a RC. YC the correct outcome. As it
should have been (well a second YC) for the Wolves player that
deliberately shouldered Trossard in the head forcing him off
with concussion that was missed by Tierney.

hi,
this, in essence, is the entire problem - players who frequently
feign injury (trossard in this instance) are, i believe, less
likely to get sympathy when 'genuinely' hurt. obviously, the
officials are in a difficult position as they daren't deny
medical aid to a stricken player, but i'm sure the onfield team
are aware who the serial offenders are and if they haven't fully
seen the incident, are less likely to take appropriate action.
as a long standing arsenal supporter, i'm frequently embarrassed
by the 'dark arts' the team stoop to, especially when there is
more than enough talent available to win most matches playing
'in the spirit of the game'. this behaviour is entirely
controllable by the manager, but sadly, the 'game management'
element seems to have been actively encouraged and coached by
arteta. unfortunately arsenal aren't unique in acting like this
and i'm sure would argue that others do it too.

Well said gnr and it appears that Sunderland have learned a
great deal about the 'dark arts' this season from the ex-Arsenal
player who is their cornerstone. Definitely not good for the
game and, as someone who has been involved in the game for a
very long time, I have tired of watching it at the top level.

Not to sure why Sunderland are being singled out here as
Sunderland are neither the worst overall (actually tied with
Newcastle) for wasting time with restarts overall or for any
type of restart.
There’s a pretty simple solution for most restarts and that is
allow and encourage referees to enforce the laws of the game,
won’t solve the ‘head injury’ endemic maybe enact nfl type
concussion checks as 30 seconds is nothing.
Also add the wasted time on properly, the example I mentioned on
here from Brentford was the worst incident i have witnessed a
foul in the 44th minute 1 minute added on and the last touch of
the half was that free kick being taken.

Time wasting never even entered my mind, it is the other 'dark
arts' that Sunderland are very well versed in since the arrival
of the ex-Arsenal player. As I stated, the whole scenario is not
good for the game and all the clubs are guilty.
