Colchester United FC (First Team) v Barnet FC (First Team)
Football League 2
Referee: Chilowicz, Alex
Assistant Referee: Kelly, Paul
Assistant Referee: O'Meara, Colman
Fourth Official: Shipp, Alexander
A tough one to assess for Alex Chilowicz, but i’d say it was
slightly below average but felt worse to myself and our
supporters as most decisions went against Colchester, with some
correct and some not. It’s the second time i’ve seen Alex live
and both times I feel he’s struggled to assert his authority
onto the game that needed it at times.
The first half was fairly dull, Barnet didn’t egregiously
timewaste but did drain the seconds as best as they can and I
felt they were due a hurry up or two, especially after the
approx 90 seconds between scoring and the restart - Tchimanga
must have taken nearly a minute to walk from the goal to the
halfway line! Two correct yellows, one for each team. Whilst not
his fault, he did get in the way of a Colchester player which
led to a Barnet counter and shot at goal - just bad luck but
didn’t help the home crowd’s frustrations. One quite funny
moment where it looked like he was going to give Barnet a very
soft free kick but gave a defensive foul for i’m not sure what -
but it certainly fooled the home crowd who started to burst
before realising we had the decision!
Second half was much more frantic and I thought Alex got most of
the big decisions right but lacked a bit of consistency and
authority. 3 penalty shouts for Colchester, 1 correctly given, 1
correctly given as a dive (well done to Alex and AR1 for that)
and one I thought he got wrong for not giving a second spot kick
for a shirtpull by (I think) Tavares on Lisbie. As I mention, he
correctly gave a dive but then a similar incident on the edge of
the box shortly after produced no whistle which I think must
have been a dive or a free kick. I thought a couple of Barnet’s
players and Colchester’s manager were lucky to not get booked
for looking frustrated towards the officials but Alex’s approach
was to take the time to explain decisions so I see the good side
of that attitude.
By no means a disaster, Alex got the big decisions mostly right
but unconvincing for me and i’d like to see him take a firmer
approach in future games where it’s required. A very well
deserved 3 points for Colchester after a dominant second half.

Big games for Young at Southend and Kettle at Scunthorpe.
Good derby match for Wright at Huddersfield.

Thankfully not.

Thankfully not at Tranmere's drubbing at Notts County. Two main
talking points, the Notts County second goal looked offside;
don't know whether Matthew Jones or William Cavanagh was running
that line. Those at the game felt a soft penalty award from
Harry Wager for the hosts fifth goal, but impossible to tell
either way from the footage.

Over the last 40 years the two clubs have met 28 times and there
hasn't been a single away win!
It goes on much longer than that!
Last time Blackpool won a match at Bolton was 19th December
1959!
Last time Bolton won a match away at Blackpool was almost as
long ago: 10th September 1960
Now that's a stat for a pub quiz!
And knowing these stats, it’s a given that they’ll be an away
win!
That same worry hit my mind as soon as i'd posted that. Almost
as big a "What are you doing? You should not have done that"
moment as Bolton goalkeeper Jack Bonham's actions at Blackpool's
second goal (which DID have me thinking it was an away win...)

SG2 assistants for Peter Wright and Elliott Swallow. I wonder
if either of these guys might get a trial Championship game over
the coming weeks

Peter Wright has gone off injured at Walsall. Feel a bit sorry
for him as he’s been out injured for a while. I think he is a
decent referee.

Hopefully a lesson for the appointment officers to not give an
injury prone referee one day of rest before a game live on tv.

Bradford City FC (First Team) v Rotherham United FC (First Team)
Live on SkySports+
Football League 1
Referee: Woods, Martin
Assistant Referee: Wigglesworth, Richard
Assistant Referee: Topp, Jake
Fourth Official: O'Regan, Declan
A little disappointed with Martin Woods this evening. Far from
bad but after an excellent display at Cardiff in September I
expected a bit better and fewer minor contact tackles penalised.
Early on he got a few wrong in my opinion, with a foul on
Sarcevic not given and a reckless slide challenge on Metcalfe
not even given as a free kick. Also, our two best attacks of the
first half after scoring were halted by Martin’s whistle. The
second of these was totally wrong and the first very harsh, not
consistent with his usual approach of letting the game flow.
His second half was much more like it - only two cautions from
memory, from the same passage of play after two great advantages
in a matter of seconds. It was good to see him go back to issue
these at the next stoppage. He certainly finished the game a lot
better than he started it and I hope we get him again soon.
