C Pawson Bournemouth v Spurs

Very mixed bag from Pawson first half. Good control and use of
cards. However dier should have had a second yellow for SPA with
tackle from behind and also dier should have given away a pen
right on ht.
Son then Sent off- not 100% it’s a red, think the Bournemouth
player’s reaction has convinced the referee.
Should be an interesting second half!

To be brutally honest Pawson has had a poor season , today has
highlighted that imo his positioning is woeful doesn’t seem to
make any effort to get better view of possible tackles and
penalties , for the first booking of the game to Dier I thought
he wasn’t going to give anything just have got a shout from his
AR
Pawson is capable and has produced much better performances than
he has has this season

Didn’t a Bournemouth player push Son to the ground? Where is the
consistency? The Dier tackle mid field, I understand why a
yellow was not given as there may have been doubt whether he got
the ball and the penalty was just missed. When you have a poor
season or perhaps confidence is going, these misses seem to
happen. Bring on VAR!

As an afcb fan - the tackle by Dier near the halfway line -
replays clearly show that King was impeding Pawson's view.
Unless he has developed x-ray vision he had no way of knowing if
Dier made contact with the ball or kicked King in the shin. Yes
he called it wrong but for me it's an understandable one from
the angle of view he had, now whether his positioning
should/could have been better I don't know but he can only give
what he sees and there is no way he could have seen that in real
time.
The penalty shout when Dier kicked Wilson and not the ball - yes
should have been a pen but I don't know what his view will have
been. The replays don't show where he was, it's a crowded box,
it was a low kick, players facing away from him & I doubt he
will have been able to have a clear view - one for an AAR who
would have been looking from the correct side to get the view
needed in real time or VAR. Opposite side to the AR who will
have also been unsighted.
2 wrong decisions but which both highlight how difficult it is
in real time, for me he was unsighted for both decisions and the
pen shout I don't think there is anything he could have done
differently to have seen it, it shows why VAR is so desperately
needed to help these guys out.
I felt Lerma could/should have had a yellow card in the tussle
with Son before Son lost his head and was rightly, imo sent off.
Son's reaction to a simple tussle was dreadful.
2nd red was spot on.
AFCB have been dreadful since Spurs were down to 9 men! They've
lost their mojo!
Mark Travers - what a couple of great saves by the kid in the
1st half before it all went insane!

I agree that Paswsons positioning lets him down and he doesn’t
seem to run into the correct spaces, maybe just a style thing.
Could he have got some help from AR on dier tackle?
Should have been a pen for Bournemouth, looks like Pawson has a
decent view of it. Son rightly sent off on second viewing.
Finally Bournemouth break through - from a corner no less!
Not Pawson’s finest game and hasn’t had the best of seasons and
still think there’s plenty more
to come from him in the next 2-3 years!

As play was breaking in his direction he would have been further
up the pitch, in line with the last defender so I don't know if
he would have had a view, not sure what view 4O would have had
either without re-watching countless replays from various angles
until you get one that shows exactly where they are & which way
they are looking. Cann would have been further back down the
pitch and a more rear on view as well in any event.
AFCB had to leave it late to score because we're notorious for
throwing away leads!! Have been that way in all of my 21 lady
years of watching!

At that last Spurs corner, it looked more like rugby tackles
from a scrum. I wonder what VAR would have made of it.
If a referee doesn't have a clear view of a crucial incident,
the question has to be asked about his reading of play and his
positioning. Sometimes it's just unfortunate, on other
occasions not so.
I was beginning to warm to Pawson but he seems to have gone off
the boil again.

I like Pawson generally but I certainly think there is more
improvement to come with the right coaching and envelopment.
I think that he could improve on his positioning/movement and he
sometimes seems to lack a bit of presence/authority -I can
understand him missing the Dier foul for the second yellow but
he seemed very indecisive about what decision he was going to
make. It almost seemed like he wasn't going to give a foul, then
he was, then he wasn't.

Dier first caution - spot on
His 2nd challenge on first viewing I thought he got the ball
too, no other team member would have had a better or more
credible view, so Pawson had to go with his gut
The challenge near the goalkeeper was a penalty, one VAR would
pick up
Having penalised Son for the foul, Pawson could not have seen
the Bournemouth defender tred on Son, so had to (correctly)
penalise the reaction
The 2nd red is nailed on
Tottenham got frustrated at themselves, the at Bournemouth and
at the officials. Not the first time tension/stress in games has
been their downfall
