C KAVANAGH - Villa v Newcastle (FA)

Oh dear… that’s a bad miss by Greenhalgh for the Villa goal.
Abraham miles offside for a SG1 assistant to miss.

Red card missed for SFP for Digne in my opinion. Slides into the
challenge with force, studs up making contact with Jacob
Murphy’s shin. A real bad challenge that for me is a red card.

Stupid challenge from Bizot. Definitely a red for the keeper.
Possible red for Digne after his challenge on Murphy as well.
A challenging first half for the officials.

I would say a very mixed bag from Chris and team.
Villa should be down to 9 men.
Chris has been let down by both of his assistants; offside goal
and awful tackle both decisions you would expect ARs to get
correct.

Don’t think it’s been a great half for the officials. The
offside is an absolutely horrendous decision. The Digne
challenge is red for me, but I think they’ll use his leg being
bent as the get out. Correct red for Bizot. Be interesting to
see what the red goes down as.

How did the AR miss the offside. VAR influence in that he lacked
concentration knowing VAR would normally bale him out? Was the
unusual movement confusing? Did he see when the ball was
actually played? We will never know I guess.
The red card was for SFP which is fair enough but the "missed
red card" is baffling. Another failure to detect SFP?
Keep VAR!!!

Kavanagh and being let down by AR’s? We’ve heard that story
before…
Looks like Kavanagh gave the Bizot RC as DOGSO. On the replay
from behind, you can tell he has a glance towards the goal
looking at defenders so think it was given as DOGSO. Not sure
the challenge itself would’ve warranted SFP but it was another
ugly tackle.

Shearer is insufferable.
- the missed offside is an understandable mistake, because
looking along the line, the Aston Villa no3 player obscures the
view that Greenhalgh has of the goalscorer (and Newcastle no33
is quite deep)
- the tackle by Digne is a clear red card and a bad mistake by
Kavanagh, who didn't follow play closely enough with the ball in
Beswick's vicinity (he had no chance to help the referee here)
- excellent red card for SFP, not DOGSO, to Bizot given
immediately
Good, consistent cards for tactical fouls which Kavanagh gave
confidently even though it was early in the game.

Kavanagh was quite far away from the Digne challange so could
have maybe got some help from Beswick but between them they got
that wrong in my opinion. Correct RC for Bizot and 1st Villa
goal being given was clearly a mistake by Greenhalgh.

Kavanagh had no chance to give the Digne red card challenge as
he had less of a view than Beswick did.
I would assume that Beswick and Beswick only made the call with
the yellow card.
