Indeed… haven’t really heard any bad reviews on him at all
recently so must be on good form, and a quick return to
Spotland.

Fourth appearance for Mr Guest at a BWFC game this season,
second one as fourth for Simon Mather. Richard Wigglesworth
hasn't been allocated one of our matches since the same time
last year. And i'm surprised to realise it's the first time
we've seen Will Finnie since the same Valentines weekend in
2024.
It's a key game in the league with second place vs third so i'm
quite pleased with this appointment of an experienced and well
thought of referee and experienced team.

Another three officials - Plane, Treleaven and Breakspear -
being seen for the first time at a Bolton game this season.
However, we had Peter Wright as ref at home just a few weeks ago
against Mansfield on 29th December. I was still away for the
Christmas holidays so I didn't see the game and cannot give an
opinion of my own. However, there was a lot of noise made in
the days afterwards with some fans saying it was the "worst
refereeing performance they have seen all season", it "put a
dampener on their new year celebrations" etc etc. Fair to say,
I don't think Mr Wright was rated highly.
As I say, he's not a referee that I have seen personally yet so
i'll have to wait until next week to do so. I hope my fellow
fans were wrong or it was just a bad day.

To add to the Peter Wright comment it is fair to say he did have
a bad evening at the Toughsheet back in December culminating in
a late turned down Bolton penalty appeal in the 90th minute
which sadly due to his positioning he could not give. I hadn’t
seen him officiate previously but hoping for a much improved
performance at Reading next Tuesday.
Very pleased with the Will Finnie appointment to the crucial
Lincoln v Bolton game which i think could be a tough game to
manage but always rated Will when I have seen him in the past…

Also to add about Peter Wright. I wasn’t there but I’ve gone off
clips from the Crewe manager and clips from the game, but he
seemed to have a really really poor game against Barnet on the
3rd Feb. Every 50/50 decision seemed to go the home team as
well. Peter also cautioned our manager for having “too many
standing on the sidelines”, yet the Barnet bench had the same
(our manager said this). Then only a couple of mins later, he
got sent off (straight red) - I’d imagine for moaning. Based off
what it was, Peter gave a goal kick to Barnet, that was quite
obviously a Crewe corner and I don’t think our manager was
happy. He said he didn’t bother going into to talk to the ref
because there wasn’t any point.
However he hasn’t been banned from the sidelines… which could
indicate that it was a wrongful dismissal.

Will be my first sight of Andrew Humphries in the middle, any
thoughts?
It sounded like he struggled last season, which think was his
first doing FL games, but seems to have had some more positive
acclaim and decent appointments in this one.

He obviously got the Crewe red card wrong last season, but I
don’t recall much else. He was very good in our game against
Barnsley in October

We had him in November, I don’t recall much from the game but
overall he did a good job

Crewe Alexandra FC (First Team) v Gillingham FC (First Team)
Football League 2
Referee: Coy, Martin
Assistant Referee: Jarvis, Danny
Assistant Referee: Amphlett, Marvyn
Fourth Official: Jones, Matthew
For the second home game running, the away manager wouldn’t shut
up! Once again, every time I looked he was in the FO’s ear or
putting his arms up in the air!
Onto Martin and I think he was okay. Gillingham survived a lot
of yellows to which I don’t understand how they got away with so
many. Especially the number 6 who was hooked off mid second half
after having a run of committing fouls. Sarcastic cheers came
out in the 93rd min when Martin finally brought out his yellow!
He didn’t seem to give much pulling on our striker who was being
brought down a lot, particularly first half.
I like Martin as he is very clear in his decision making by
either waving things away, or strong signalling to give a free
kick. Although, I did struggle to hear his whistle a few times
so maybe a new one is needed???
Not the best of performances I’ve seen from Martin, but he was
okay in a physical game.

Bradford City FC (First Team) v Peterborough United FC (First
Team)
Football League 1
Referee: Allison, Samuel
Assistant Referee: McGrath, Matthew
Assistant Referee: Leach, Daniel
Fourth Official: Stockbridge, Sebastian
I thought Sam Allison put in a much improved display this
afternoon on when I’ve seen him previously (with Howard Webb in
attendance!).
Saying that, he was a bit strict on cautions in a very football
focused match. Late in the first half Baldwin looked to take out
Cian Hayes in the box from my position, but Allison awarded a
corner. If we are to trust my totally unbiased fellow supporters
who were better placed than I, it was a good decision. The
replay isn’t entirely clear
The big KMI he unfortunately got wrong came in the first 2
minutes, with the Peterborough goalkeeper getting beaten to the
ball by Jackson, and then deliberately handling the ball with an
open goal, reducing Jackson’s chance of scoring significantly.
It wasn’t easy to spot but had he seen it a red card would
surely have been the outcome.
