I hope James Bell in Stockley Park hasn’t fallen asleep because
I nearly have. Hopefully he’ll now go and grab a coffee to keep
him going.
Peter Bankes has been good. Done what he needed to do and been
consistent. The level of physicality allowed has been pretty low
if I’m honest but like I said he’s been consistent with that.
Quite a few players have bought a couple of fouls in my opinion.
But Bankes is doing well anyway.
I imagine something will spark the game into life in the second
half.

I was really looking forward to this game, but I am (currently)
bored to tears. I hope we see some ELEMENT OF excitement very
soon, …..please !!

A more eventful and more enjoyable second half for me as a
neutral.
In my opinion, when the pace of the game increased and the game
started to get more tense, Peter Bankes rose to the occasion
very well and stepped up in his performance.
An excellent call to caution Gusto for a clear act of
simulation. No penalty call was 50/50 for me and I think James
Bell was right to stay out of it. Chalobah’s leading leg clearly
won the ball but on the follow through he raised his leg which
tripped Martinelli so there was enough doubt there for me to
stay out of it.
Expecting some big fixtures for Peter Bankes in the run in this
season. Well done tonight.

Peter Bankes struggled for a few years to establish himself at
the top table of English referees but with confidence and
ability he has maintained a good standard and gets good games
like this one and top Premier League fixtures (Arsenal v Man
City last year) on a regular basis.
Similar parallels to Simon Hooper who struggled for a while but
is now one of our top officials.
We are always quick to write off officials who find it difficult
to acclimatise but credit to them, they knuckle down and get
their just desserts when is all said and done.

[emoji106] although the chalobah/martinelli penalty incident
could have gone either way [emoji50]
nice to see a YC given for simulation and disappointing, yet
again, to see arteta cautioned for, it looked to me, something
he said to Thomas Bramall [emoji37]

Well done referee Bankes, was not the most testing game, but did
what he needed to do. All cautions spot on.
The biggest compliment I can give to him is he reminds me very
much of an Alan Wiley type of referee.
