Villa-Brentford. Tim Robinson (VAR Tierney)

Villa goal ruled out after Tierney ruled the ball had gone out
of play. Two doubts here for me, the first being I’m not sure
you can 100% say the ball is out, although it looks it. And
secondly surely that can’t be part of the APP, it’s ages before
the goal is scored.
Good spot by Robinson to send off Schade for violent conduct in
the first half

I totally agree re VAR. No matter what he thinks. There is
absolutely no way that Tierney can say 100% that it is out of
play. He does not have the view to make that decision. Another
error by Mr T I’m afraid

Without a view down the line you can't be sure in that
situation, it reminds me of a newcastle goal v arsenal a few
years back

I cannot believe that var would have overturned it without
proof. Also, frame difference for TV and var may be significant.
VAR went back a long way in both distance and time. Can they go
that far back? Did APP end? Not sure it did end.
Did read that the sent off player didn't get protection earlier
in the game but are we in that grey area of allowing physicality
which can backfire? Red card yes. Provocation? Not sure.

Just seen the footage of the ball out of play which disallowed
the Villa goal.
There is no way on this planet that the VAR can call that as
ball out from that angle.
I remember a similar situation which was covered in refs mic’d
up when Madley and Burt couldn’t determine from the tv footage
in Newcastle v Arsenal.

Having just watched the highlights on MOTD I think that this
whole situation lacks a "smoking gun angle" (to steal the phrase
on MLS Instant replay) that tells you for 100% it's out. From
the angles shown however, I'm confident it was actually out of
play and that APP had not ended. However, there is no chance VAR
should be saying it was factually out of play, Robinson
should've been sent to the monitor at least, but preferably not
at all without the smoking gun angle

This is the incident at Newcastle with Attwell in the middle.

Brentford have released this. I wonder if the var had this view,
i guess we will never know.

If they had it would have been better for transparency to
release it immy or back up the vars factual evidence ie what
they saw.

I believe that it's from the Brentford social media person who
was sat with the snappers in front of the Holte End. It's some
helpful, conclusive footage which shows that the ball *was*
factually out of play.
Agree PGMOL could usefully clarify what footage the VAR/AVAR saw
which led them to reach the conclusion they did; suspect it's
also a prime contender for Match Officials Mic'd Up (as it would
be helpful to hear the process) although I am pretty sure the
incident at OT on the final day didn't make it into the wrap-up
of the season because the club and PGMOL agreed to handle it
privately.

19 seconds from the ball going out of play to the goal being
scored - don't think you can really call that "ages".
I hope that the VAR team had a more conclusive angle available
to them though, because from the TV angle alone it's just
guesswork.
