Craig Hicks - Bradford vs Doncaster
   DIR By: HChip

I’ve seen several reports of 4th Official Paul Marsden being
shown a replay of an incident on an iPad and using it to inform
Craig Hicks to disallow a goal.
Is this allowed in law? Is it even stated in law? Has this
happened before? Surely it’s unfair if other matches have had
incorrect decisions and been unable to review them there and
       then.

No concrete video or photo as of yet, however it is reports
(many) I have seen from various social media platforms, all
mentioning the exact same thing how an iPad was shown to Paul
Marsden, who then had a conversation with Craig Hicks, who
       overturned the goal.

From my view in the stadium, which is a similar angle to the 4th
just further away, it looked like handball. Not punishable but
as it immediately led to a goal obviously it had to be chalked
off. Hicks didn’t give anything initially but after consulting
with the nearest AR he clearly signalled a goal.
Marsden was very late getting involved, surely if he was so
certain he could have communicated over comms sooner. I’ve not
seen any evidence he was shown anything by a Doncaster coach but
Donny fans are not denying it.
If as I hope no ipad was used, it’s a good decision by Marsden -
a bit lucky though, he can’t have been 100% as he was a fair way
away and the only definitive angle is from behind the goal. If
not, it’ll be interesting to see what will follow. Would be
great if the audio is released to clear it up.

If they have Marsden and Hicks will be facing a lengthy spell
out on the sidelines as that is totally not allowed. !!

The goalscorer of the disallowed goal has droppd this on his
socials - whether he’s following the crowd or not, I presume he
is being serious. I also think if it was a rumour or something
taken out of context it wouldn’t have gotten this wide spread.

You don’t know the Bradford fans, anything can spread like
wildfire!!! I don’t think it happened if I’m honest (surely
these guys aren’t daft enough to do that)

The commentator on the brief ITV highlights suggested that Craig
disallowed the goal following advice from his AR. If that is
correct, then fair enough, the AR was probably in a better
position to see the incident than Craig was. I have to say I
thought the decision, when finally made, was correct.
