Anybody care to speculate as to Super 8 appointments? Think the
umpiring has generally been fairly solid, irrespective my
presumption would be the ICC will pick from the Elite and
Emerging panels. Given teams involved and geographic split, I'm
presuming we will see effectively 2 panels of 8 consisting of:
Group 1 (India)- India, Zimbabwe, WI, South Africa:
Tucker, Reiffel, Gaffaney, Dharmasena, Saikat, Wharf,
Kettleborough, Illingworth
Group 2 (Sri Lanka)- Sri Lanka, England, Pakistan, NZ
Menon, Holdstock, Paleker, Raza, Yaqoob, Nogajski, Madanagopal,
Brown
Obviously less certain where Australian umpires will go with the
side out, likewise perhaps Brown could be in India and one or
more of the English umpires could be in SL doing non England
games, Saikat also I've mainly put in India given he has been
there to date

I think you’re right with the theory of 2 groups of 8. One
observation from your proposal - all emerging panelists would be
in Sri Lanka. I think we are more likely to see Nogajski and
Brown in India. Hopefully appointments will be confirmed soon

Yes, you are right. 2 groups of 8.
My predictions (splitting of groups):
Group 1:(India)
Rod Tucker, Chris Gaffaney, Kumar Dharmasena, Chris
Brown, Jayaraman Madanagopal, Richard Kettleborough, Alex Wharf
and Adrian Holdstock.
Group 2:(SriLanka)
Saikat, Ahsan Raza, Nitin Menon, Paul Reiffel,
Richard Illingworth, Allahudien Paleker, Sam Nogajski and Leslie
Reifer.

Interesting to see you keep Reifer in the group ahead of
Yaqoob….
I wonder who the next batch of emerging umpires might be. From
this tournament, I would assume Reifer, Black, Koch and perhaps
Rusere back in the fold

I do feel as though irrespective of group stage performance it
will be Elite and Emerging only as was done in 2024. Hard to
pick a front runner amongst those 4 for the Emerging Panel
(presuming at least one Elite retirement when the panel is
announced presumably next month); I feel like Koch is at
something of an advantage given the high level of
professionalism around umpiring in Australia, though would be
nice to see Rusere get another go, or for Black to become Irish
Test umpire #1. I haven't seen much of Reifer this tournament
but he definitely seems marked for higher honours in the next
few years.

Regarding super 8 appointments, I reckon these would most likely
have been pre-determined (just like the seedlings) due to the
short turnaround between fixtures and the need to move some
umpires between countries. Therefore it would have been assumed
that Australia made it and were playing in India so I think it’s
highly likely Tucker and Reiffel will be in the Sri Lanka group
while all three English umpires will be in India. They will also
want a good mix between the top 8 umpires, who will presumably
umpire two games) and the other eight umpires who will most
likely only get 1. With that in mind here are my groups:
Group 1 (India) Illingworth, Kettleborough, Gaffaney and
Dharmasena (all 2 matches), Wharf, Saikat, Brown, Nagojski
Group 2 (Sri Lanka) Tucker, Reiffel, Menon, Raza (all 2
matches), Holdstock, Palekar, Yaqoob, Madanagapol

Unpopular thought, I think home umpires will be allowed to
officiate at home itself, like dharmasena in srilanka and menon
and madanagopal in India,
With 3 non India matches, menon can be onfield in 2 of them and
3 rd Or 4th in the other, and madanagopal in one match as
onfield
Similarly it qpplies to Dharmasena tooo

According to media release
Kettleborough, Illingworth, wharf, Gaffaney, Dharmasena, Tucker,
Holdstock, Raza and Nogajski have 2 matches onfield
Saikat, Menon, Yaqoob, Palekar, Madanagopal and Reiffel has one
match on field
Interestingly Brown has no matches onfield 🤔
