I get to see Elliot Bell for the first time when Crewe are at
home, and Peter Wright picks up the rearranged game against
Barnet, meaning Harry Wager doesn’t keep it.

Someone explain to Alex who the 2 very nice men (albeit 1 a wee
slip of his former self) are in the Bristol dug out.
Although to be fair I rarely understood anything they had to say

Alan Young with a decent derbyish tie at Priestfield…..
Reeves with a basement battle at Crawley.

Elliot Bell certainly looks like a well rated official and
impressed me on his visit to Colchester in November. Hopefully
it’s a good showing for him and a good game for our Crewe fans,
although hopefully the points find their way out of Cheshire!

Crewe Alexandra FC (First Team) v Colchester United FC (First
Team)
Football League 2
Referee: Bell, Elliot
Assistant Referee: Guest, Danny
Assistant Referee: Ryder, Mark

Elliot’s display was probably the best refereeing performance
I’ve seen this season. He let a physical game, at times, go and
got involved when he really needed to. He played some fantastic
advantages for both teams, in particular one where the Crewe
player was wiped out just after playing the ball through to our
attacker. He could’ve easily of blown up here but he let play
continue for our striker to have a shot. I think he went back
and booked him when the ball went out (don’t hold me to this).
His fitness was incredible, sprinting all over the place and
always up with play.
I think Danny Cowley needs to watch his mouth. After every
single decision, he had something to moan about with his arms up
in the air, as if he was pretending to be a plane. The amount of
times I looked over and he was in the FO’s ear was ridiculous.
He even moaned when there was 6 mins added on second half! 6
mins to help his team find an equaliser! And he had a moan
Elliot at half time coming off the pitch - I’m not sure why as
absolutely nothing happened.
Overall a pretty dull affair (besides the final 10 mins where
Crewe were hanging on). Elliot produced 3 yellows, all to the
visiting side, and I think he will be best pleased with his
performance!

Fully agree, a class act from a referee that I'd not seen
before. I wondered whether he let things go a bit in the latter
stages of the game when Colchester were chasing an equaliser,
but I don't think it detracted from what had gone before, so
probably OK. The late penalty shout was up at the far end of the
ground from me, so I can't really comment on it. I was pleased
that either AR1 and/or the 4O picked up on the off-the-ball
incident towards the end of the game which resulted in a yellow
card for a Colchester player. Other yellows were spot on. A fan
who regularly sits near me was unusually quiet today about the
refereeing when the same could not be said when Mr Stockbridge
came to Gresty Road recently. A good performance from Elliot in
my view and showed promise in abundance. I wonder whether fans
from Colchester are going to follow up with a report of their
own.

I have completely forgotten about that late pen shout - weirdly
hardly/to no Colchester fans shouted for it, but some players
were adamant. Elliot was in a great position to see it though.

Glad to hear Elliot continues to impress, a real star in the
making and establishing himself as a top National List official.
I didn’t see any complaints from U’s fans I know or on social
media, always a good sign. I’ve seen the late penalty shout once
and my gut feel was no penalty but i’d want to see it back.
Sounded like a dull game that Crewe was perhaps fortunate to
score with their only meaningful shot, but also a continued
theme of Colchester struggling to make/take chances, amid a real
injury crisis.
