Effortless, makes it so easy, no controversy and was hardly
       noticed.
Standard high level Oliver this afternoon.

I also just want to make the point that after the suggestion
that Oliver shouldn’t be handling games of this stature… it was
a real pleasure to witness a high calibre official going about
       his business with minimal fuss.
He treats every game with the upmost respect and his consistency
week in week out is of the highest order.
His appointments should be spread around to all teams (bar his
nominated exclusions), who have earned the right to play in the
top flight, and not restricted to the top PL teams every week.

Unfortunately it seems my comments from Monday are still being
received in a different way to what I intended despite the fact
       I explained my reasoning.
I agree that no team or fixture should be exempt from having
Oliver referee appointed. However, context and timing is key.
Oliver is going to have a whopper match on Wednesday in the
Champions League I would expect (just a guess). If he does, I
think giving him this game is unnecessary and a rest would've
done him better as many on here often give out about him needing
more resting time. If for some reason he's not appointed on
Wednesday, then fair enough, this appointment cannot be
critiqued. I just feel that a rest is better than having to trek
down to London to ref one of the more manageable games of the
       weekend.

I agree with you 100% but in my opinion this needs to work the
other way as well. Any SG1 referee is there on merit and so when
another referee is in top form, they should be appointed or at
least considered to some big PL games.
If someone like Harrington, Bramall, Salisbury are in a decent
patch of form, I want to see them get more high profile games
because they’re in the premier league on merit. Tim Robinson is
a referee I actually feel a bit sorry for at the moment - he may
not have had a great season last year but recently all it feels
like is he’s travelling to just hold the boards up and down the
country. How is that good treatment of a top referee? Everyone
is there to referee PL games so everything should be fairly
spread out in my honest opinion

That is a fair argument. It might also be the case that MO is
one of those referees who prefers to be active and would rather
referee on a Saturday than sit idle while others are
officiating. I have no idea, but it is possible.

Flawless from Oliver. He glides through games with such
calmness, whilst clearly having the respect of the players. To
be fair, this was a very easy game to officiate, two teams who
wanted to play football the right way, with no major
flashpoints, but that shouldn’t detract from how brilliant
Oliver was. For me, he’s head and shoulders clear as the best
referee in SG1 and probably Europe.
As for the game, don’t think we have any Brighton correspondents
on here, but if there is, sincere apologies. That was the
       biggest robbery since Brinks Mat!

I always assumed Seagull was a Brighton correspondent on this
Forum but I may well be mistaken.
