Not really sure what to make of tonight’s offerings. The penalty
decision is clearly the major talking point, but the contest
certainly didn’t warrant a card fest in the match.
Obviously Tierney is still on a very long comeback trail and we
have to give credit for him having to embark on this.

A really boring game that one. Not one I’ll be remembering in a
hurry.
I think the second half was really tricky to officiate,
especially with Bournemouth players throwing themselves to the
ground at virtually every opportunity (sorry bmb!). The play
acting from Bournemouth at times was shocking and I felt sorry
for Tierney with the amount of head injuries, cramp and other
acts of time wasting he had to deal with.
Going back to the penalty incident, it’s one that with my
football fan head on, I wouldn’t like to see it given but with
my referees head on, I think it has to be overturned because of
the on field decision. Simulation was clearly the wrong decision
so I think it had to be an OFR.
Tierney was fine. Thought the caution of Van Hecke was harsh but
apart from that it was an ok performance.

Yeah, that's where I'm at. It wasn't simulation, might have
been a foul but definitely wasn't a clear and obvious error to
not give the penalty. Had Tierney just played on without
cautioning for simulation I'm convinced there would have been no
review recommended. All a bit of a mess, but I can understand
why he thought it was simulation real time.

Out of interest, could Tierney, having looked at the monitor,
kept to his decision of no penalty but cancelled the YC for
simulation? Unlikely I suspect.

I disagree there was embarrassing playacting - Eva was pushed,
Scott was pushed and kicked in the face accidentally - that's
hardly throwing themselves down. Tav doesn't go down without
reason, like all teams we have those who do - Tav isn't one of
them. Adli I think genuinely had cramp - not sure he's played a
full game yet & I'd love to see his running stats/distance
covered. Trouble is we play a high paced game and for a young
player with very little PL experience it's too much for them
physically. We used our only 2 senior subs (one who is returning
from injury), then an 18 year old bought in for the development
squad, leaving us with 4 academy players (one who we've had to
recall from loan) and a senior gk on the bench. When we hit this
stage last season (bench full of academy players) we went into
our best spell of the season so fingers crossed...
Brighton's equaliser was an absolute worldy! I think a draw was
the right result in the end, both teams played well for 1 half
and hung on for the other half!
Our penalty - I think if Tierney had not wrongly cautioned for
simulation it would have more likely been a goal kick and play
on. The injustice of the wrong caution needed fixing, that was
clear and obvious. There was contact, yes, was it enough for a
pen - I doubt it & I would have been peeved it was given the
other end so with that in mind I'd have to say right to rescind
the YC but I'm not convinced it was a pen.
The pen shout for Brighton I think had Brighton 6 not rolled 874
times he may well have got a pen. Scott came in over the top and
there was a foul, whether or not enough for a pen I'm not the
best person to answer that but I think it would have been more
considered if their 6 wasn't still rolling along the touchline
during the VAR review trying to "win it".
The non handball shout against Senesi was spot on imo.
Oh and Brighton 6 fully deserved his YC, the only surprise was
he'd stopped rolling about long enough for a revenge tackle on
Scott after the pen shout!

A game I actually went to. Good to see Tierney coming back into
the prem, think he did well. For the penalty, in real time I
thought was a penalty, and was surprised to see him go the other
way. After seeing highlights, I’m happy with a pen being given
especially once simulation was given on field.
Bournemouth tried to waste time, which was dealt with as much as
possible by Tierney, and it bit them in the behind after a
worldie from Brighton.
Not an outstanding performance, however an above average one and
one that Tierney and co can walk away from happy.

I thought he was good. Aside from the penalty, which I'm really
unsure about, didn't see any decisions for either side to be
unhappy with. Wellbeck lucky to escape a booking for jumping
into a tackle a bit two footed in the first half, perhaps the
only non-decision of note.
A tired, depleted Bournemouth side did what they could to slow
it down and he proactively dealt with it using the only tools at
his disposal. Immediately talked to the captain when Hill took a
long time over a long throw in early in the second half.
Petrovic wasn't allowed to have too many slow goal kicks before
the card came out. Plenty of time was added on. Chris Kavanagh
could learn a thing or too.
The penalty is a tough one. Adli has clearly gone down easily,
which he has a habit of doing. But he does take a kick in the
thigh, which isn't enough to fell him but is clearly foul
contact. I'd actually lean the opposite way to ajb95 and say
it's both a dive and a penalty.

For the penalty, first reaction was def penalty and not a dive,
keeper caught him with trailing leg. Was Adli expecting contact
yes so he did what all players do and make the most of it.
Saying Adli wasnt going to get to the ball is a red herring
surely, otherwise you are giving licence to all players to comit
fouls on players not within touching distance of the ball
without sanction.
Fair result. Def a performance of a returning from injury
referee. Poor position for the penalty incident.

That’s fair enough regarding the time wasting. It was just that,
from a neutral perspective, at times it felt quite excessive
although I do now realise how stretched your squad is so maybe I
was a bit hasty with my original comment.
I do agree Alex Scott got an unfortunate kick to the face and
obviously I don’t follow Bournemouth a lot so I couldn’t agree
if certain players were ‘one of them’ but it is part and parcel
of the game so I need to realise that. Tierney tried to let the
game go as much as he could but his hands were tied in some
instances when Bournemouth players were down.
