May I enquire from a refereeing point of view how our learned
correspondents view the wisdom of sending a referee to a match
with significance for both teams in a county where the referee
used to have joint registration and where the brother of the
referee used to be a player.
My aged opinion is that it is unfair on the referee, creates
unneeded pressure and potentially and needlessly leaves the
referee open to accusations of favouring one team.
I am pleased to say that I did not see the match and cannot make
any comment on the referee’s performance, but we are supposed to
have a thought to Mental Health and the situation would appear
to create extra stress .

I imagine the authorities were already aware of this and had
decided that it was not an issue. If they were not, then perhaps
they should have been. If a referee really feels that they
should not be refereeing at a club for whatever reason, then I
think they need to say before it becomes an issue. Other than
that, I don't personally feel that too much needs to be read
into this.

What have I missed here and which game are we referring to, out
of interest?

I’m sorry but I was asking from a general viewpoint. The
circumstances did exist in the EFL but it would be unfair to
mention the referee.
I would like to feel that in the circumstances I would have
returned the fixture.

Personally think it is unfair on the Referee as opens them up to
unfounded complaints.
As an away fan at the game the Match Officials were comfortably
the best team of the three. No complaints from me about 90th
minute penalty which won the game.
Previously The FA appointed a Referee who had been on our books
as a youngest to an FA Cup game. The fact appeared on Social
Media and the appointment was changed with some other reason
being quoted
