Crystal Palace
By: TA_Ref Date: January 16, 2026, 8:31 am

A rather tumultuous day for Crystal Palace supporters today.
Firstly, the manager, Oliver Glasner, confirms he will be
leaving at the end of the season for a ‘new challenge’
And then, it is virtually confirmed that their captain Marc
Guehi will depart to Manchester City.
I have a lot of sympathy for Palace fans, who’ve experienced the
highest of highs in May and June and now find themselves in a
time of uncertainty. Just goes to show that the success they’ve
had can also be the cause of a possible downfall. You would’ve
hoped that the captain, Guehi would’ve seen out his contract
until the end of the season (even though I understand from a
business perspective) and a real lack of loyalty from one of
their best managers in recent years (again I understand if he’s
being frustrated by the board).
I hope Palace continue to do well in the foreseeable future
because they’ve been a breath of fresh air in the last season
and a half and I hope they don’t suffer from the departure of
these key people who’ve been imperative to their success.

At least they now get some money for Guehi as opposed to losing
him for nothing. He's a very good manager and will no doubt be
extremely frustrated by the board's lack of ambition, I'm not
sure many managers of his calibre that would stay in that
situation. They should be winning the Europa Conference League
but are struggling because of the very thinly stretched squad.

As a Palace fan of 60+ years standing (often literally), I am
sorry to hear of Glasner's departure at the end of the season;
also Guehi to Man City. However, both were expected and, as
rustyref has said, Palace have money in the bank from the sale
of Guehi which they would not have got at the end of the season
when he was out of contract. That is the nature of the game in
the PL, and we will always remember Oliver Glasner as the man
who finally brought silverware to Selhurst Park last May, and
the Community Shield in August, both against much fancied
opposition, and we must hope that he can bring one more trophy -
for the European Conference League before he leaves.

We are in a similar boat with Silva…

I suspect we'll be losing Andoni as well.

Could be a turbulent summer window with Palace losing Glasner,
plus Iraola and Silva seemingly indecisive at present.
With the World Cup in the summer, a few elite managers will also
be out of work as per the usual after event following a
tournament.
Could be a lot of competition for jobs.
Colin back at Palace? 😂

I see Glasner came out post match today saying he feels
“completely abandoned” by the clubs hierarchy.
It wouldn’t surprise me if he’s in the job for much longer after
that comment. It’s not often a manager gets away with a swipe at
the board like that.

As long as Kieran McKenna is still the Ipswich manager come the
start of next season, I’ll be a happy football fan.

Odds on Glasner and Frank swopping?

Reports are that there have been clear the air talks and Glasner
will stay until the end of the season.

I have some sympathy with the manager although we may not have
the full facts let alone the reasoning behind the Board's
decision.
However, Martyn Samuel makes an interesting point quoting Steve
Parish who said that FFP rules and possible investment in the
club and therefore players is severely limited. These rules
benefit the big clubs who are quite happy to maintain the status
quo and the smaller clubs have to manage as best they can.
This is why I am increasingly disillusioned by the Premier
League, the lack of competition and indeed England qualified
players plus the financial rules.
So we shouldn't berate the owner without hearing his side too.
Frustrating for Palace fans.
