I’ve been watching snooker, but we go from a great weekend of FA
cup football without VAR to the next game where it’s the only
thing being talked about.
It’s just not helping anyone or anything.

The old ones are often the best!
Still it was worth the extra 9 minutes just to see that final
goal.

Don't listen to the commentators, despite them repeatedly saying
the check was for interfering with Pope it was clearly for
interfering with Thiaw, who Haaland was in physical contact with
and effectively had pinned. If Haaland was in an offside
position that has to be offside.
But yet again SAOT has failed and they had to resort to drawing
lines, and based on how far those lines showed Haaland as being
offside compared to what the Sky cameras appeared to show I am
far from convinced it was correct. It doesn't seem to cope if
there is any kind of crowded situation, yet the same technology
used in other competitions does manage to deal with this.

I must politely disagree. IMO there were at least 3 challenges
in the first half that merited sanction with a YC. For example,
the Linton challenge on I think Foden was the first (reckless),
and then Semenyo's foul (SPA).
The altercation involving Linton and a City player made it easy
for CK to finally produce cards and he took a stricter line in
the second half, although even then I felt City could have
received 1 or 2 more YCs. But his leniency in that first half I
felt was poor judgement in what was always likely to be a hotly
contested game.

best part of 5 minutes of in depth analysis in the VAR room to
make the “decision” only to then send the referee to the monitor
to make his own decision.

That isn't how VAR works. They have to decide whether Haaland
was in an offside position, and as I said earlier the technology
appeared to break down again so the manual lines made a
reappearance. Once they have done that they have to decide if
he was interfering with Thiaw, that is a subjective decision and
they therefore have to recommend a review. Had Haaland touched
the ball the referee wouldn't have been sent to the monitor as
that becomes a factual decision.

The only part of Haalands body that looked offside to me on
initial looking at the tv pictures was his arm which is
irrelevant for offside. Both Haaland and Thiaw were engaging in
holding each other it wasnt just Haaland holding and Thiaw
seemed to prevent himself getting to the ball by that action.
If Haaland was in an offside position then disallowing goal is
consistent with a decision at Wolves earlier in the season if i
remember right.
Dont forget SAOT is a cheaper version of the uefa system (cost
cutting?) so i am sure it will have many more floors than its
superior.
For El Referee clear and obvious does not exist when checking
offsides its black or white.
Kav looked well cheesed off waiting to be sent to the screen.
Attwell is fast becoming one of my least favourite vars

The fact they were holding each other is neither here nor there,
the holding isn't the offence, offside is. IF Haaland was
offside that is 100% an offside offence, I'm just not convinced
he was and they've had a technology issue.
Kavanagh can only be sent to the screen once they have confirmed
Haaland was in an offside position, so all he can deal with at
that point is was he interfering with Thiaw, and for me he
clearly was. I'd say there is zero blame on Kavanagh here, and
probably limited blame on Attwell if the technology let him
down. They shouldn't be having to resort to the old method of
drawing lines but the flawed SAOT tech is forcing them to.
