Tottenham v Aston Villa - Craig Pawson

A very bad first 5 minutes from referee Pawson. Late one on
Matty Cssh and no word given to the player making the foul. Then
Paulinho goes through Kamera, a clear mandatory yellow and
nothing given ! Kamera badly injured and has to go off, Darren
Cann agreed prob was a yellow, I was always trained that fouls
which cause injury need to be sanctioned. I am shocked referee
Pawson didn’t even have a word…. Shows the decline he is on this
season tbh

I think to say that all fouls which cause injury need to be
sanctioned is a slightly simplistic way of looking at things. It
really isn’t that black and white.
However, I do think it was a caution. But I think Darren Cann
hit the nail on the head as to it being ‘too early’ to caution,
as the reason why a card wasn’t shown (but I don’t agree or like
it!)

I think either one of those challenges, individually, could be
managed in the opening stages but once there’s two in five
minutes I feel there has to be a caution.

You'd be slightly more credible if you even managed to identify
the correct offender - it was Tielemans. Add to that the
attacker was barely out of their own defensive third, had just
fallen over while attempting to control the ball, and had
another defender five yards away to beat before you could
consider the foul to be preventing a promising attack.

Disgraceful scenes at the end and both teams will hopefully be
charged by the FA for failing to control players after that full
time brawl.

I like Pawson as a referee. But, I don’t think it was his finest
90 minutes. Missed a few cautions in my opinion.
No need for the scenes at the end. But, I think that also
happens as the game has not been overly well officiated.

A poor performance for mine. A very lenient start where a
caution or two could’ve and probably should’ve been awarded. The
one on Kamara by Palhinha was definitely a YC imo. He did ok for
the rest of that half but the second went a bit downhill.
I felt his decisions became more like when players complained he
gave a decision. There were times where he tried to play
advantage then blew the whistle but had he not blown an
attacking opportunity would’ve arose. This I think infuriated
both teams as it happened to both. Foul detection became very
random in my opinion and he never exerted that much control when
the atmosphere got louder and the tension on the pitch rose.
I think Pawson’s overall style of officiating - typically
relaxed and calm - didn’t really work today. And I think he
started to react to what was happening which was different as to
how he normally referees. That’s why I think the performance
wasn’t great.

Normally the experienced Craig Pawson has a good, laid back
style but here I felt he needed to be a bit stronger in the
early stages and administer those cautions which may have
settled the game down a bit.
It was a curate’s egg of a display from Pawson, good
in parts but inconsistent and hesitant in others, most notably
in the second half where the players seemed to want to take
charge and settle their own scores.
As someone rightly commented, Craig Pawson reacted to events
rather than taking a firm grip and letting the players know he
was in charge, not them.
We have all had our bad days, and despite this quite ridiculous
expectation that all referees should be perfect 100% of the
time, some of our more esteemed officials also have their off
days. It wasn’t one of Craig Pawson’s better evenings, that said
the appalling antics after the final whistle wasn’t down to him,
it’s just some individuals are quite incapable of exercising
self control.

I would agree with all the comments made missed the chance to
assert his authority in the early stages of the game, and was
inconsistent in penalising offences during the whole game.
