Some people on social media are disgusting. I am appalled and
disgusted by some of the things I’ve read on X (Twitter). I’d
like to see how many of them could pick up a whistle and
officiate a top flight match in front of 52,000 people.

What's most disappointing and I'm generally shocked by, is the
fact that Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham (who it would
seem is an Everton fan) has joined the pile on!
Unbelievable.
He hasn't been abusive obviously, but he's been heavily
critical. Incredibly irresponsible from someone of his stature!

If he’s doing it then everyone else will think it’s acceptable!
And this is why refs lower down the pyramid have no hope. The
abuse at the top level is going to carry on going down the
levels

All of the decisions Tom Kirk made last night are very
defensible, and right.
Quite why there’s this broad belief that we should ignore
petulant behaviour from footballers is beyond me.
Had Grealish not sarcastically applauded Kirk, he wouldn’t have
been dismissed (despite multiple other incidents of dissent)
Had Keane not pulled Arokodare’s hair he wouldn’t have been
dismissed.
Both of these were stupid and unnecessary actions by players.
And yet it’s the refs fault?

From what I have read, Kirkby was absolutely right to send
Grealish off and I applaud his action in doing so. I haven't
seen the hair pulling incident but some have described it as
accidental. Was it?

Accidental, no. Instinctive as opposed to calculated, maybe.

I hadn't watched it last night and mistakenly thought it was two
cautions in the same incident. Now I've seen it and realised it
was two separate incidents, plus the reaction of the pundits and
Moyes who seemed to support it, I'm much less inclined to think
that Kirk won't be backed for it.

Everton have appealed the Keane red card. No chance that gets
overturned, small chance of a reduced suspension due to it not
being as “violent” as eg. Cucurella hair pull in the CWC final,
but I think that would set a dangerous precedent

Agree. It was more like someone falling who grabbed anything to
hand to stabilise themselves. It does not diminish in any way
that it was a sending off offence and it was a reckless act that
endangered the safety of an opponent. It could be argued that
it was SFP for those reasons and less VC as it was not a
deliberate violent act.

I have a slight bit of Sympathy for Michael Keane as I don't
think it was meant as act of Violence, unlike the Jack Stephens
and Romero incidents on Cucurella, however the precedent has
been set, you'll pull some one by the hair it's a red card.
Grealish can have no complaints its one of the most blatant acts
of dissent I've seen and Tom Kirk needs to be applauded for
dealing with it correctly.
Hopefully he is backed by the PGMOL and has another premier
league game sooner rather than later.
