Tony Harrington: West Ham v Forest

Surprised there isn't a thread yet on this one.
Have to say I think Harrington done well, but their were
mistakes in part, mainly with some fouls being missed. One for
WH on the edge the box springs to mind.
Two key points: 2nd WH goal given offside by VAR and then OFR
for a pen against Areola of WH. Clear pen, very similar to Onana
incident of 2 years ago with Hooper, good to see they've learned
from that and given a pen today, good quick process from
Neil.Davies on VAR too.
Interestingly, Nuno has blamed Harrington for causing his
players mindset to become disrupted and therefore them dropping
in performance in.the second half which is an interesting load
of rubbish to say the least. I don't think he'll be in a job for
much longer!

Big fan of Harrington but tonight not his best night but still
not bad.
Missed a couple clear fouls that just have to be given.
Pen had to be given.

I’d be questioning the weak mentality of his players who, week
after week, continue to show that they are incapable of winning
football matches which lies on both the manager and the players

On Harrington’s actual performance, I agree with all that’s been
said. He wasn’t bad but there were some things that were
occasionally wrong - a couple of FK’s here and there which were
either missed or were very soft.
With the penalty, difficult to spot in real time and in honesty
I was unconvinced on first viewing but the more I saw it, the
more I thought it was a penalty.
Says a lot about his performances this season that tonight was
the first announcement we have heard from him on a VAR decision.
And we are now in January so hope he keeps up the good form.

One bizarre incident where VAR was called on to decide whether a
Forest shot was deflected wide off a defender's hand or his leg.
VAR correctly ruled the ball hit the leg of a West Ham player
but the game then remarkably restarted with a goal kick rather
than the obvious corner.

Yet another football anomaly in play this time in respect of
players having to leave the pitch after receiving medical
attention.
As Gibbs-White was taking the penalty he was allowed to stay on
the pitch to take the penalty.
However if the foul had been on the "main free kick taker"
outside the penalty area then that player would have to leave
the pitch after treatment. Think back a couple of seasons where
James Ward-Prowse at Southampton scored from virtually any free
kick within scoring range outside the box.

Santos has clearly brought something from Forest - the
disrespect of officials and blaming them. West Ham are where
they are for a reason, different referees each game but one
common denominator.
Harrington was OK and I think criticism of him applies to every
referee in the Premiership. In their desire to allow a more
physical game, some challenges which I would think a foul, they
play on. Oliver, excellent as he is, is prone to this criticism.
Agree about the penalty, keepers need to understand as Rob Green
explained on Sky, if you come off your line you cannot expect to
be treated any differently from any other player. On you goal
line, that is the goalkeeper's territory and more leeway should
be given.

So a goalkeeper whacking an opponent around the head is be OK as
long as they have at least one foot on the goal line? Noted.

A goal kick or corner decision isn't a VAR reviewable decision.
They checked the potential penalty but would just come back with
check complete, they can't, or at least aren't supposed to, say
"check complete but give a corner". If a goal was then scored
from that corner it would have been the result of VAR turning a
goal kick into a corner, and that isn't allowed.
