If action was not taken to avoid any reprocussuions and then the
football world gone mental.
I don’t think in my 38 years I have ever seen a mass con last
this long with 0 cards shown ! And a referee looking awfully
weak out there in the middle, Jonathan bench side assistant
looked alert ! Switched on ..: but Russell oooked totally
overwhelmed, and when you got fans calling it out on twitter
with things like “not even 1 yellow shown” you just cringe for
Referee Russell. For me there was 4 yellows and 1 defo red
there, but then also Ainsworth Gills Manager prob deserved the
red for starting it all off.

Both clubs have been charged by the FA although no sign of
individual charges issued to the players/staff as seen in the
Bristol City v Millwalll incident last month.

If taking disciplinary action isn’t taken because it might
inflame things further, something has gone terribly wrong.

If it was during the game I would agree with you, but after the
full time whistle when it is a free for all with stewards,
security and potentially even police involved it would serve no
purpose to start flashing cards around. It could even hamper
any subsequent disciplinary action, for example if the referee
shows people a yellow card it then becomes harder for the FA to
intervene as the referee might be deemed to have already seen
the incident and acted upon it.

I’m sorry, I am not buying that you don’t issue disciplinary
action because the game is over and/or it could hamper further
action.
Basics of a mass con are to at least get the 2 that start it,
then go from there.
4 officials on the day are there, and not 1 of them saw at the
very least a caution? Come on

A rather famous or infamous, whichever it counts as, example of
this is from many many years ago and Mark Clattenburg failed to
send off Wayne Rooney and instead gave him a yellow card. The FA
were unable to take retrospective action because MC was deemed
to have seen the incident, despite him saying in his report he
had not seen it clearly etc.
It has always been that way, if the referee takes any action
then the FA cannot take retrospective action because the referee
is deemed to have seen it. Whether that should be the case is a
completely different matter of course, particularly in instances
where a wrong needs to be righted.

It is really absurd that the FA can do nothing if the referee
has made a mistake in being lenient, but can overturn a red card
if it should have been yellow. Someone somewhere has been conned
into this situation and it is time to correct it.
Presumably the same absurdity applies to the Middlesbrough
incident, although for that one there must be a case for police
involvement.
