A game on a knife-edge right now, not because of the referee,
but because of the atmosphere and the challenges by the players.
In my opinion, Backhouse is doing just fine. Keeping his cool,
and the game becoming this fiery is not at all down to him.

I thought Anthony Backhouse was excellent but I’m sure a certain
Mr Lampard will not agree with me.
He rejected numerous penalty appeals for Coventry, none of which
I believed were clear cut so he was right to wave away every
one. The only one he could’ve and arguably should’ve given was a
WWE move by Azon on Woolfenden which resulted in the Coventry
player’s shorts being pulled down.
Furlong and Mason-Clark were at it all game. I thought
Mason-Clark was fortunate to not a receive a yellow card at some
point because some of his reactions were a bit over the top.
An excellent advantage was played leading up to Ipswich’s second
goal so well done to Backhouse there.
I thought it was a very good performance where he wasn’t swayed
by the volatile home crowd at times. Well done 👍

That is one of the best Championship games I've ever seen.
Ipswich were outstanding and Coventry were maybe a yard off it
but you could see in flashes what a good team they were - I
thought the towsiness came from the speed that the teams both
played at rather than players naturally being at it. The
referee, who I've not really seen before, I thought was
excellent. He seemed in total control throughout and even when
he missed something he never seemed flustered. I think he was
rewarded for a relatively high bar for a foul as the dissent
wasn't bad. Coventry will have better days but thought everyone
on that pitch worked really hard to provide a spectacle.

Certainly a gripping game to watch and the kind of spectacle we
all want from our football, especially during the festive
period. I don't ever recall watching Mr Backhouse referee but he
was very impressive, I liked how calm he looked in every single
scenario, not once did he look intimidated by players nor the
atmosphere that must've been like a pressure cooker in the
second half. I thought Coventry had a fairly decent shout after
Ipswich's 2nd goal, Kipre and Sakamoto , looking at replay I'm
torn and I think you'd see it looked at extensively in the PL.
They all need to work on staying onside too, the flags went up a
lot it seemed. A thoroughly entertaining game that all involved
contributed well too.
