Keith Hackett.........AGAIN !!!!!

Please can I ask a polite question ?
i know it is decades since Keith Hackett refereed at the top
level but just WHAT HAS HE GOT against Sunderland AFC ?
This season our disciplinary record is no better or worse than
most other clubs but every week he is having a pop at the club
not only that but it is then transcending down to the referees
who officiate at our games and having seen every minute of every
fixture there is not one incident either for or against us that
I would criticise the officials for.
Every week he is pinpointing certain incidents that happened
such as goals that in his opinion should have been disallowed
and challenges which [ once again in his opinion] should have
resulted in a red card.
He took exception over the tackle two weeks ago on Newcastle
United player Dan Burn by Nordi Mukiele that the match referee
Peter Bankes saw as a yellow card............straight red
according to Mr Hackett.
Last week at Brighton once again match referee Darren England
issued a yellow card to Dan Ballard for a foul .Wasn't even
debated on this forum so it was what it was. According to Mr
Hackett once again straight red card.
FINALLY in the game with Leeds yesterday he said the Sunderland
goal should not have stood due to Adringa being offside [
checked and cleared by VAR] and Tony Harrington has failed in
his duties by not sending off at least one Sunderland player
during the game.
It is interesting to note that no thread has been started
regarding the referee's performance either one way or the
other.........and to be honest I always place 100% trust on
opinion given by those who post on here so I am satisfied that
the performance of Tony Harrington was would have been expected
of someone in his position until someone who is more qualified
than myself says otherwise.
In the past he has had regular goes at us including one fixture
last season proclaiming that Sunderland would be heavily fined
for not controlling their players......can't remember which game
it was or what incident was the old boy was referring to but
nothing official ever came of it.
Does he have digs at other clubs or is it just Sunderland ?
It really is becoming irritating but am happy to be corrected
if other contributors think otherwise.
Regards as ever.

Maybe they did not treat him well back in the dim and distant
past when he was an "active" referee and he bears a long
standing grudge?

Nothing to do with Sunderland, they just happen to have been
involved in games where borderline decisions happened that he
can have a pop at. He, along with Mark Halsey, will almost
always disagree with the decision the match officials made. It
is so predictable, if the referee sent off he will say it
shouldn't have been a red card, if a penalty is given he will
say it shouldn't have been a penalty, etc. What he conveniently
forgets is PGMOL was a complete mess when he was in charge,
whilst not perfect now it is much better than in his days. He
even has the gall to comment on referee's fitness levels, which
really is the ultimate pot calling the kettle black, anyone old
enough will remember him waddling round the pitch and making
decisions from 50 yards away.

Likewise I would trust the opinion of every member on here over
his. You’ve just reminded me to unfollow him on twitter

Hackett wouldn’t last five minutes if the pace of the game now
was when he was “active”.

I’m going to remind you all to refrain from personal insults
towards the subject matter , by all means critique his
refereeing in the past, his record in charge of pgmol, and his
media comments but please refrain from any personal remarks .
Our forum is above all that , many thanks to you all in advance.

........which is why I asked the question politely.
I hope I didn't come across as being insulting in any way shape
or form as in any case as a mere fan I am in no position to
criticise in any refereeing capacity.
It is only the fact that every week he seems to hold court and
sometimes in a manner that if it was someone like myself saying
the same I would have to answer to group admin to explain.

Let me put it in a more discreet way. Keith Hackett was not
known for an especially quick turn of speed or for covering
every blade of grass on the pitch when he was refereeing.
I'm not really one for making New Year Resolutions but may I
suggest that the marvellous RTR community makes a collective one
for 2026; no mention at all of Keith Hackett. Not that I'm
trying to censor lively debate of course [emoji6]

He also says Sunderland were denied a nailed on penalty, I think
it’s more a he likes clicks and attention and he gets a lot of
it through Sunderland recently.
