Needs highlighting as a reason for the way everything lost
control, from both the officials and some of the Spurs team. A
dreadful game marred by the man in the middle unfortunately.

A genuine question? Have you ever refereed a game of football?
Because as I'm sure most refs would know and feel, John Brooks
is absolutely not the reason for the absolute disgraceful
behaviour and attitude that was Spurs last night.
I actually commend and admire John, he'd have known the drama
and contentiousness that this game has caused in the past few
years, and he could've snapped back into his old ways of putting
on a very authoritarian display and pulling up the softest of
fouls. But he didn't, and it did admittedly get a bit
inconsistent and uncomfortable at times in terms of putting in a
good performance, but that is nothing to to with the Spurs
headloss.
Brooks gave the players the opportunity and showed respect in
attempting to let them play a free flowing game of football,
unfortunately the players, mainly in white, gave him nothing but
disrespect and childishness back, and that is absolutely beyond
his control.
Suggesting he is at fault for Spurs actions, is in fact
laughable, and something that any semi-compotent referee would
never ever say, I'm sorry.

I’ll answer your question first then you answer mine …. no I
haven’t but I know the laws of the game off by heart, have been
linesman hundreds of times at semi pro level, and have been to
thousands of live games at my local team.

semi-pro?

I too am intrigued by this. I can't understand how anyone who
has never blown a whistle could have run the line hundreds of
times at semi-pro level. Unless we are having step 5/6 leagues
accepting L7 assistant referees that never actually refereed a
game of football.

Steps 5 and 6 definitely don't count as semi-pro anyway

I was being very generous on the basis some step 5 clubs have
semi-pro players, but I would agree that semi-pro probably
starts at step 4. And it is absolutely impossible for line 100s
of games at that level without having refereed a game of
football.

You are certainly not the only poster. In fact I thought I'd
posted something similar at the same time but it's not appeared.
I appreciate that the extent of an injury doesn't necessarily
imply a bad foul, but that challenge was late, two-footed, at
speed, excessive force, out of control and endangered an
opponent. How many more boxes did it need to tick?
For once, I found myself agreeing with Jay Boothroyd on RefWatch
and was surprised Dermott was so dismissive of the suggestion.

Confirmed that Isak has broken his leg. Clearly unintended but a
desperate and very rash last-ditch scissor challenge which
should have been punished accordingly.

It is very sad that Isak broke his leg and I wish him a full and
speedy recovery. On Ref Watch, DG felt that the tackle was was
legitimate and I am wondering whether you are penalising the
outcome were you to consider the tackle worthy of a red card?
How often do you see a desperate tackle like that? Do you want
to punish every challenge like that? I cannot really get my mind
round this because I believe the tackle was desperate and a
genuine attempt to block the shot. I have a feeling that while
referees feel it was a fair challenge, the type we want to see,
some players may feel differently (until they get pinged for
doing something similar!). Ref Watch was split I should add.

The administrators have already banned tackling now you want to
ban blocking shots as well?

Tackling hasn’t been banned by anybody and nobody has suggested
blocking shots should be banned eithe. That challenge which was
excessive force didn’t block any shot and a goal was scored.
