J BROOKS - Spurs v Liverpool

A fiery end to the game and Romero binned for two yellows, the
second one could easily have been a VC red against Konate.
Haven’t seen the Simons red and anything before 70 mins but it
seems to have been a challenging last quarter for Brooks.

Brooks gave Simons a yellow before it was upgraded after VAR.
Another case of a referee missing an incident of SFP in real
time.
Romero can have absolutely no complaints, a complete moment of
madness.
Anthony Taylor has had Thomas Franke in his ear for most of the
match.

Spurs are a set of ill-disciplined toddlers, I've seen better
behaviour at a 5 year olds birthday party!
I expect much better from Thomas Frank and his team.

Think the first red is a prime example of PGMOL officials
failing to spot SFP in real time. This is something they haven’t
been great at for a long time.
Good VAR intervention, but not convinced it should have been
needed.

I beg to differ, I thought the Simons challenge was defendable
as a yellow. The contact was fleeting and you could hardly call
it excessive force.
In slow motion it looks bad, but I really don’t think it was as
bad as those stills made it look.

The criticism regarding the first red card is very harsh. I
would like to see where the referee saw it from, it would be
easy to miss the intensity of the tackle from behind. And it’s
no wonder referees are more hesitant to flash a straight red as
they have the back up of the VAR. its pretty to think about it
from a psychological view.

Referees should not be brandishing red cards or not giving
penalties because that have the back-up of VAR, that is NOT what
it is there for.
They are offered help from a psychological point of view. If
what you say is true, I would be very worried that this hasn’t
been flagged.
View could be a reason for it seeing it. But that would suggest
improvement is needed on positioning. Some decisions can go
either way, and this will be understandable. This was not one of
them.

After seeing things back again on MOTD, Romero should've been
given a straight red card for violent conduct, I've seen them
given for less.
Also, I expect him to get upgraded by the FA and a fine at least
for his very choice language and aggressive behaviour in the
aftermath.
Richardson as well choking Ekitike after his goal, again I've
seen red cards for VC given for less.
To summarise, Spurs are a disgrace!

The discipline that Tottenham showed today was atrocious and
does not show them in a good light at all.
I didn’t watch the game so I’ll choose my words carefully but
watching MOTD I felt Brooks and VAR Attwell needed to be
stronger. Richarlison could’ve been sent off after having a
stranglehold of Ekitike’s neck. There was a shocking challenge
by Bentancur on Kerkez which had an unnecessary amount of force
in it - could’ve seriously endangered kerkez and I think a red
card could’ve been warranted there. And then Romero’s kick out
could’ve also been a straight red too.
In all honesty, Spurs could’ve ended the match with 8 and
possibly even 7. It was a disgraceful show of behaviour which
was not easy to deal with.

That’s the second time this season (the first by Gordon at
Newcastle) that a referee has given a yellow for a blatant act
of serious foul play on Van Dijk only to be bailed out by VAR.
At elite level neither of those challenges should need VAR
intervention.
I thought the referee allowed too much dissent and his tolerance
level was ridiculously high. The foul by Betancur on Kerkez was
an orange challenge but no card, Romero kicking Konate is
violent conduct yet only a yellow and Richarlison grabbing
Ekitike by the throat was just ignored. The scissor challenge
that injured Isak was also ignored but just because the ball
went in the net doesn’t mean it isn’t serious foul play.
For Thomas Frank to try and justify the conduct of his team is
pathetic. They act like a Leeds team of the seventies but
without any of their ability.
