Sunderland vs Newcastle matches are one of the toughest to
referee in this country and I thought Bankes handled it very
well. Wasn’t swayed by the fans or players and dealt with the
handbags at the end calmly and efficiently also with good
support from his assistants

Howard Web has openly said that PGMOL expect the bar to be
higher for second cautions, there’s no way any SG1 referee is
giving a second caution for that.
I thought Bankes did very well. Mukiele’s challenge on Burn had
to be a caution, yes it was a ball he felt he could win but he
caught him full force in the ribs with his knees and has
seemingly caused a fair bit of damage. The fracas at the end
came from a nothing foul on the keeper and he had it under
control, it only then got worse because two players 50+ metres
away then decided to have a scuffle, no referee can control
that.

Bankes let the defenders kick lumps out of Brobbey in the early
stages without taking any action so it was no wonder he got
frustrated.

He got his yellow card for waving an imaginary card for a
nothing foul on him. Every player knows it is a mandatory cation
so must have absolute rocks for brains to do it.

Nothing to do with what he has let go. Don't go blaming the
referee for the players discipline.

In your opinion it's a blatant caution, in mine it's not, no
need to call my opinion tosh please. Also other than the 1 other
one you've listed, I can't think of any others that are 'clearly
wrong'?

Peter Bankes managed the occasion AND refereed the game itself
extremely well.
There are a lot of referees could look at the VT of the game
and learn a lot from his performance.

Why does it need to be a YC? Either the referee will give a YC
or he won't. What's the difference between that and a player
incorrectly shouting for a foul, a throw in or corner? Or a
player questioning a referee's decision or a player holding up
their fingers to indicate how many times they have been fouled?

Bankes and team will be very happy with their afternoon’s work.
A match lacking in quality from either footballing sides, Bankes
did what he had to do. The scuffles at the end were well dealt
with, all officials maintaining calm and taking a decent view of
the incident.
Finally a shout out to Simon Hooper. From my west in the stadium
we get an excellent view of the dugouts. Both teams kept him
busy throughout the game, but he seemed to have an excellent
rapport with both benches and plenty of smiles on his face.
Indeed, during the melee, there was a moment where he was stood
in the middle of Le Bris and Howe (two of the more calm, down to
earth managers I might add) with an arm around each. It does
show officials and managers can work together!

Law 12:
dissent by word or action including:
- throwing/kicking drinks bottles or other objects
- action(s) which show(s) a clear lack of respect for the match
official(s) e.g. sarcastic clapping
Waving an imaginary yellow card comes under the 2nd one - clear
lack of respect. There is no way to misinterpret that particular
action. Shouting - you can see them shout but not hear what they
are saying, in the case of every player claiming every
corner/goal kick/throw in should go their way nobody would be
left on the pitch after about 10 mins! I'd expect a caution if
they were particularly aggressive with it or right up in the
refs face but not when 22 hands go in the air every time the
ball goes out of play accompanied by the "our ball ref" comment.

[/quote]since the start of last season they have clamped down on
the the imaginary card.
All players knoe this and know that they’ll get a yellow if they
do it.
