Brobbey very lucky to avoid a second yellow.
Bankes has been very good apart from that

Another game where headlocks are OK and trips to stop counters
are not yellow cards
Think newcastle players want to play for sunderland trying to
pull the shirts off

He's been absolutely excellent, he's completely justified the
appointment. He's been completely consistent ans managed the
game perfectly.
If Brobbey had been sent off, the game would firstly have been a
lot more boring and also more importantly it would created
difficulties and increased tensions in the game. Given that it
was borderline he made the right decision in not booking, as its
paid dividends in creating a manageable game for him.
We should be no longer surprised or annoyed to see Peter Bankes
appointed to our leagues biggest fixtures.

ya if he sent him off it would have made it a lot harder for him
but imo if he didn’t have one already it’s the clearest one..

So we are just going to ignore blatant cautions because of the
“game?”. (Edited no need to belittle others for a different
opinion , next time there will be no edit just deletion of the
entire post)
Bankes has kept control well with a firm stamp but several
decisions clearly wrong for me. Shocking brobbey tackle on miley
not punished with deserved second yellow. Mukiele yellow for the
clash with burn I didn’t think was a yellow either.

No surprise it has kicked off with what he let go

Both sets of players had to make a show of themselves at the
end, how unfortunate. Unsurprising given the game. Great to see
3 bookings dished out, nice to see referees adequately punishing
players.

it was eventually going to no matter who reffed it.

will be a talking points

Nothing to do with what he has let go. Don't go blaming the
referee for the players discipline.

In your opinion it's a blatant caution, in mine it's not, no
need to call my opinion tosh please. Also other than the 1 other
one you've listed, I can't think of any others that are 'clearly
wrong'?

I only watched the 2nd half - I thought Peter Bankes was very
good and kept control of the match well. As Adam said, don’t go
blaming the referee for player indiscipline.
This was always going to be top of the list for one of the
hardest matches to officiate and I’m personally not surprised it
kicked off at the end. The physicality, the passion of the
players and the fans means emotions were always running high. I,
for one, did not think the melee was caused by Peter Bankes’
officiating.
For me, the Brobbey challenge is borderline. Some may give a
second yellow, some won’t.
He certainly did not sway to the home crowd and remained
consistent as best he possibly could in a volatile and
passionate atmosphere.
Very well done to Bankes. Top work.
