Plymouth Argyle FC (First Team) v Bradford City FC (First Team)
Football League 1
Referee: Parsons, Thomas
Assistant Referee: Smith, Rob
Assistant Referee: Amphlett, Marvyn
Fourth Official: Scholes, Matthew
Tom Parsons seems to be having a much better season this time
around. Plymouth had a goal ruled offside, looked very very
tight and no replay was shown, a bit unlucky for them. The only
goal came from a penalty, correctly given imo. Humphrys went
down easily, but it was naive defending to give him a shove in
that position. Otherwise, some good advantages and all cautions
were correct. No complaints from me

Sorry OllieBCAFC I have to disagree with you. IMO if penalties
are being given for that then football is in a dark place. The
Bradford player has felt minor contact and throws himself to the
floor. IMO it’s a very poor decision and a decision that could
get a manger his P45. I thought there was a contact with
consequence in decision making?
I watched the game on Sky Sports Plus and don’t support either
team but felt sorry for Plymouth. Would be interesting to see
that offside decision again.
That’s just my opinion but I do fully respect your view too

I really like Cleverley but if he loses his job it’s nothing to
do with that decision. I don’t see what the defender is trying
to achieve and there was definitely a fair bit of contact. If we
conceded a penalty for that foul I’d say our defender cost us
the game rather than the referee

Hopefully just a minor injury for Matt Corlett after he was also
taken off the Wigan game last week.

And York v Rochdale on 11th Nov.

Colchester United FC (First Team) v Gillingham FC (First Team)
Football League 2
Referee: Mackey, Oliver
Assistant Referee: Carmichael, Marcus
Assistant Referee: Da Costa, Anthony
Fourth Official: Bradley, Alex
On the most part, I was very impressed by Oliver Mackey and with
exception of 1 controversial incident, it was a fantastic
performance.
Gillingham started the game very physically and Oliver was
always on the spot to address any misconduct, correctly using
his cards, although I think Mbick was lucky not to be booked for
breaking up an attack. I thought he was the right balance of
being involved with players but also blending into the
background. His fitness was good and communication seemed that
way too - there were 3 or 4 decisions which he whistled for a
little late, I think potentially after intervention with his
team. The only negative for me was far too little time added on
in the first half, with Gillingham’s long throws taking 30
seconds per time but only 1 minute added. 7 minutes in the
second half felt about right. There were 1 or 2 decisions in
added time that I thought were “safe” decisions from the
officials to award defensive free kicks for minimal contact.
The one incident I’m very torn on was the yellow card for Hutton
in the first half. Firstly, I thought Oliver did well to see it,
given it was quite far off the ball. With the ball with the
Gills goalkeeper, Hutton shoulder barged Lisbie in an attempt to
stop a chargedown before pushing him over just below the neck.
This was a good 10 yards from the ball and completely
unnecessary - whilst it wasn’t the most forceful push, it was so
uncalled for. I would imagine the laws would agree with a yellow
but, even with my slight bias, it feels slightly unfair that a
player can shove another over out of frustration with just a
yellow card as a consequence.
This also led to a heated exchange between two very experienced
managers in Cowley and Ainsworth, which kept rumbling on and
required Oliver to come over and ask them to cut it out.
That incident alone, which as mentioned, I think by law is
probably correct (even if I think it morally feels unjust!), I
thought Oliver and his team were excellent and i’d be happy to
see him appointed to us again before the end of the season.

Crewe Alexandra FC (First Team) v Newport County AFC (First
Team)
Football League 2
Referee: Duckworth, Edward
Assistant Referee: Taylor, Grant
Assistant Referee: Ford, Declan
Fourth Official: Robinson, Daniel
I think this was a very pleasing performance from Ed last night.
He tried to let things go as much as he could, was happy to
speak to players but also show his authority when he was being
questioned one too many times. He sent off the Newport striker
for a second bookable offence (in fact a former Crewe player).
The first yellow in first half stoppage time was for a tackle on
our goalie, then the second yellow I think for an elbow but not
entirely sure as it was on the opposite side of the pitch to me.
I also liked how he cautioned the Newport goal keeper for
delaying the restart after they equalised. To set the scene:
Newport equalise around the 49th minute, the goalkeeper then
takes a little while on the goal kick, a couple mins later, so
Ed gives a very strong blow of the whistle and wave of his arm.
Then the striker gets sent off and all of a sudden the
goalkeeper requires treatment…. The ball goes out for a goal
kick, but then subs are made. The goalie has put the ball down
ready, then when Ed blows to carry on, the goal keeper moved the
ball to the other side. Straight away, Ed booked him. That I
thought was amazing because plenty of other refs would’ve let it
go.
I could see elements of “robotic” in his performance but overall
I am happy. (Not with Crewe though)
