Because it was in a different game with a different referee and
VAR, also I'd say the Bentancur one has much less force and is
less of a straight extended leg.

Perhaps they foolishly thought that the ‘rule’ that allowed a
similar foul on Foden in the Newcastle v Manchester City game to
go unpunished was still extant?

Agree totally that the overall feeling is the ridiculous
behaviour of players which is really starting to ruin PL
football. Thought Taylor did very well - composed throughout,
despite the antics. No issue with number of cards when
absolutely cast iron and players refuse to stop committing
offences - nothing ref can do about it.

As we’ve all said many times, the only solution is points
deductions - no other action is any kind of deterrent. In fact,
it’s sometimes still in teams interest to chance racking up YCs
cards in big games - eg trying to intimidate ref, wind up
opposition, put off GK at penalties in a big game could just be
the difference and help a team win a big game. They’ll take the
YC. Yes, refs can rightly give cards for surrounding, waving
cards, and all the other nonesense, etc, but as soon as the
number racks up, it’s the referee’s fault for somehow ‘losing
control’.
I’m convinced that a brave, high-profile league/federation -
step up PL/FA (??) - could make a real difference with a system
of incremental point deductions for poor conduct: players
running at refs or racing over to get involved in incidents that
are nothing to do with them causing mass confrontations,
dissent, managers causing hassle (Arteta), unsporting actions
(Man City fake injuries), bad time wasting. etc. Yes it’s
‘entertainment’, but as long as it’s done fairly and
consistently, I think real supporters would appreciate more
football and less nonsense. Less pressure on refs to card
everything but report afterwards. ‘Fines for ‘failing to control
players’ are too rare and pointless.

Don't hold your breath on that one. If the will was there to try
to stop all the stupid things affecting the game then there may
be a chance, however, I feel that those running the game PL/FA
(??) are scared to upset those with the money and they hae been
for some time.
Has there been a resolution of the Manchester City case yet? I
wonder why.

Whilst in agreement with the proposal re points deductions etc.
I'm pretty sure that the only winners were that to happen would
be the Lawyers representing the Clubs

Yes - I saw it live and was very surprised there was no delay. I
presume the player simply was onside due to an angle I hadn’t
seen.
You can’t challenge from an offside position a defender on the
line and prevent them a good opportunity to clear the ball.
Looked clear cut for me at the time, but as I say, I presumed
I’d missed something.

Manchester City are a club with money yet the EPL have hardly
been afraid to upset them with charges that would appear to have
largely been dismissed by the CAS. Given the continuous
negative speculation it seems hardly to be in City’s interest to
drag it out. I might suggest that if you are looking for where
the problem in the EPL lies it could be worth looking across the
Atlantic.

I agree about the Transatlantic involvement, however, we are
still talking about money people unless we can put a finger on
POTUS and his involvement with the World Club Champions. He even
outdid John Terry and that is an achievement.
