An impressive display by the seemingly well rated Elliot Bell
this afternoon. To be honest, it was a faultless performance but
I don’t want to give too much high praise as it was a pretty
uneventful game. However, he refereed the game he was presented
with, with aplomb.
His cautions, even the early yellow for Stevenson, were all
correct - I think some referees might have let that one go in
the early stages but I was happy to see it penalised. A good
penalty decision too, possibly with some help from AR1, for a
pull back. I don’t really remember a meaningful conversation he
had to have with a player, it was a pretty timid game played at
a slow tempo. He was very strict on throw in positions compared
to most referees at the level.
The one black mark on the day for team ref was the first goal
being ruled onside, where the replays show Lisbie was probably a
yard offside when the pass was played. It was right in front of
Ross Murphy, a tricky decision but i’m sure he’ll have wanted
that one back.
Other than that, a good showing from the officials and Elliot
Bell certainly seems to fit the model of young and upcoming
officials that the PGMO like to see.
