Handball for forest is a clear error. Madley has gone off his
assisant who has guessed, thankfully didn’t make any difference
Well done to Chris Kavanagh for 2 correct penalties for
Brentford at Brighton

Page 90 - Contact after pass or shot towards goal
Considerations:
> Where there is contact following an attacker either passing
the ball or taking a shot at goal, where this contact is
inevitable or a consequence of momentum, play should typically
be allowed to continue.
> Where the contact is clearly reckless (yellow card) or serious
foul play (red card) then a penalty kick and appropriate
sanction is the expected outcome.
There are a couple of angles shown on a video on Sky Sports.
From the angle behind the goal, the challenge does appear to be
a reckless one. But from the side on angle (from the AR’s
touchline), any contact on the attacker appears minimal. Because
of that, I think the ‘Referee’s Call’ principle is going to
apply.

When I see it at Crewe it really frustrates me. What’s the point
in speaking to players when they’re just going to carry on?
Either give a pen or free kick. It’s not hard.

It is a problem trying to decide who should be penalised. Both
players are at it. You cannot win as a referee. My suggestion is
to book both of them, retake corner. Just my opinion of course.

I have to agree with this. I don’t particularly like it but I
think it’s a reasonable solution.
Barrott actually does this quite a bit. I noticed it in the
Ipswich v Brentford game last season - the ball started to come
in before he blew his whistle and ordered a retake. It can cause
issues, in the game I mentioned Brentford scored from that
retaken corner. I think I’ve seen him do it this season in a
game, he cautioned someone for persistent holding before the
corner was taken.
It’s not my favourite thing in the world but I do believe it’s a
fairly reasonable solution.

It was a stonewall DOGSO. Just outside the six yard box,
one-on-one with the keeper if the handball doesn't occur. What's
inexplicable is, even if Bramall somehow didn't feel it met the
threshold for DOGSO, it would certainly have met the threshold
for stopping a promising attack, yet no yellow card was
forthcoming either. There are some decisions where you can
understand the subjectivity or the difficulty of making a call
in real time. This wasn't one of those. It was blatant and the
lack of card very very poor refereeing.

Can you stop the game to caution and then re-start with a corner
kick if the corner has already been taken? My understanding is;
as soon as the ball is kicked the ball is live in play so it
would either be a free kick or a penalty kick.

If the "offence" takes place before the ball is in play, but the
referee only decides to penalise said offence after the ball is
in play then the correct restart (after the disciplinary action)
is to retake the corner.
Or am I missing something??

Don't think you are, sounds reasonable to me. Even if the
offence continues after the ball has been kicked into play.
