Sebastian Stockbridge, Doncaster v Accrington

When your team has lost the match, it is difficult to post
without making it sound like sour grapes. So first of all we
played poorly, gave Accrington a two goal start and failed to
take our chances in a slightly improved second half. Our manager
got his tactics and team selection wrong and although he changed
things around after the interval, it was a case of closing the
stable door.
However, I thought Mr. Stockbridge was responsible for allowing
the game to be ruined as a spectacle, due to his total failure
to deal with Accrington's time wasting. They were at it from the
time they scored in the first half and after half time they had
got it down to a fine art. Throwing the ball away, standing in
front of almost every free kick and running off with the ball
were specialities. The goalkeeper, Maxted, took ages over each
goal kick and was never even spoken to.
There were two bizarre incidents, neither of which reflected
well on the official. During the first half Donacien took longer
than usual over a throw in and Stockbridge suddenly decided a
line had been crossed and issued a yellow card. He was
surrounded by Accrington players waving arms backed up by their
excitable assistant manager. They were pointing out that Tom
Anderson, the Doncaster defender, had a cut and was getting
treatment. However, Anderson had only come over to the touchline
after Stockbridge stopped the play to issue the caution. After a
lengthy delay he indicated he was rescinding the caution.
Thereafter he decided to ignore any instances of time-wasting.
The second one you can see for yourself, but almost a minute was
wasted as Stockbridge decided to make his own contribution to
the time-wasting.

What really stuck in the craw was that he only added two minutes
at the end of normal time. By my reckoning five would have been
less than generous.
When pundits and Premier League managers complain about
refereeing standards in the Premier League I always say they
should see the standards in Leagues One and Two. It is so bad as
to be a scandal. But because the FA and PGMOL are only
interested in SG1 nothing will be done.

Based on the link, Im speechless, that is as inept officiating
of an incident you will ever get. :o :o :o
whatever possesed him?
He must just like to use the spray

That alone should be enough to get him demoted at the end of the
season, or sooner.

It seems like a case of formulaic refereeing to me. Someone who
has little empathy for the game or natural ability but does know
how to pace out 10 yards and spray a line and so that's what he
does.
The whole standard of officiating across the pyramid in England
needs a serious review. Major changes and improvements are
required.

Totally ruined sounds a tad sour grapes, but you've articulated
it well to avoid it being portrayed as that.
As for Stockbridge, he has been steady with the odd iffy game
here and there. However, he is far from a regular at Home Park.

I did say he ruined the game as a spectacle. If you were a
neutral attending that game Stockbridge's tolerance of
time-wasting (on an almost industrial scale) would have left you
feeling rather short-changed.
As for Donny, we are quite capable of losing games without the
assistance of officials.

Isn't that the same for the majority of officials regarding time
wasting? It's always more frustrating when losing but not so
much when it's your own team.

Isn't that the same for the majority of officials regarding time
wasting? It's always more frustrating when losing but not so
much when it's your own team.

This is perhaps a more obvious example but I agree it continues
to be a problem and I guess will continue to be so until we have
appointed timekeepers.

Presume they stopped after the game at Spotland last season !
