FIFA WC List UEFA Referees
DIR By: redman2014

Probably a bit early, but I’m sure it must be in UEFA and FIFA’s
thoughts about who will go to the World Cup next summer
11 referees went from the continent to Qatar 2022
Kovacs
Makkelie
Marcinak
Lahoz
Oliver
Taylor
Orsato
Siebert
Turpin
Vincic
Frappart
The UEFA seminar in March saw
Peljto
Oliver
Taylor
Letexier
Turpin
Siebert
Zwayer
Guida
Mariani
Gozubuyuk
Makkelie
Eskas
Marcinak
Pinheiro
Kovacs
Kruzliak
Vincic
Gil Manzano
Sanchez Martinez
Scharer
Halil Meler
Nyberg
I can’t see both Taylor and Oliver going. It’ll be Oliver… who I
think is vastly overrated and is not as good as Taylor.
If they replicate the same number..My list at the moment would
be..
Definitely
Oliver
Letexier
Turpin
Mariani
Marcinak
Scharer
Vincic
Kovacs
Zwayer
Then two from…
Peljito
Nyberg
Eskas
With Eskas and Nyberg the favourites
It wouldn’t surprise me if Peljito went

Wasn't Eskas the official who gave the dreadful handball and
incorrect second yellow against Aberdeen in the Europa League
playoff?
He also covered Scotland v Greece, and he looked very raw.
Quite a number of very basic factual errors in that game.

My list would be
Definately
Taylor
Turpin
Kovacs
Zwayer
Marcinak
Letexier
Vincic
Sanchez Martinez
Nyberg
Then two from
Peljto
Makkiele ( Mariani )
Halil Meler
Not sure where Makkeile stands in the eyes of FIFA committee
members so put Mariani in brackets
I think Eskas Guida and Scharer will be reserves

Everybody remember that the amount of games is increasing, so we
need more refs!
I'd say UEFA will get between 12 and 14 slots.
The guarantees are:
Marciniak
Turpin
Letexier
Kovacs
Oliver
Vincic
(These 6 are UEFA's most trusted)
Then after that we have:
Makkelie (CWC showed Collina favours him)
Mariani (an Italian will 100% be there)
Sanchez Martinez (a Spaniard will 100% be there)
Zwayer (a German will 100% be there)
Then we have our additionals:
Taylor (most likely, has previous experience, safe pair of
hands)
Scharer (again likely due to super cup experience, Switzerland
also a liked nation by UEFA for up and coming referees)
Then after that you could really end up having any of Peljito,
Nyberg, Eskas, Pinheiro, Guida (Guida would be a farce, I'd pick
Nyberg and Peljito, but could easily see Pinheiro going,
regardless whoever off of this list goes Stateside will end up
being the Kovacs role from 2022, on boards).

Turpin
Letexier
Vincic
Marciniak
Zwayer
Oliver
Taylor
Kovacs
Nyberg
Eskas
Makkelie
Mariani- not personally but no way an Italian doesn’t go and he
did u20 World Cup final
If another prob Sanchez Martinez.bebhard to believe not having a
Spanish but none of them have been performing near good enough….

Remember there are far more teams at this tournament so there
will need to be more referees.

Personally, I prefer Oliver over Taylor but there is surely no
way that they both do not go. Both are very good referees. My
list would be:
Oliver
Taylor
Kovacs
Letexier
Turpin
Marcinak
Vincic
Zwayer
Makkelie
I would also add on Nyberg, Eskas and Kruzliak
Mariani will probably be there as well, plus another Spanish
guy.
And I think they could send Pejito or Pinhero just to hold the
boards for experience

Scharer has done two finals recently (Super Cup and Nations
League) but just recently missed the U20 WC due to injury (he's
still injured I think) so will be interesting to see if he makes
it.

2026 FIFA World Cup - AFC, CAF, CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, OFC and UEFA
seminars.
The preselection process for the World Cup is in its final
stages; candidates from each confederation will gather in their
respective seminars before the final cut and the selection of
the referees who will officiate at the 2026 World Cup.
It will start with CONCACAF and CONMEBOL in early January, both
confederations will meet in Brazil. To folllow, AFC, CAF and OFC
will have a meeting in Doha, Qatar, at the end of February. UEFA
will be the last confederation to draw conclusions when the
European referees will meet in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on
the early days of March. Shortly after that date, a final
announcement about the official list will be expected.

All 16 officials to go...? Or slimmed down to 12/13
Eskas and Peljto in doubt?
Is Pinheiro better than Scharer?
Will England have two representatives? I think they may not have
both; with Taylor not going and that would be a shame
