Anyone want to discuss handball laws? We haven't had a
discussion on it in a while

Correct OFR in my opinion, it was on the line but not handball.
On Premier Sports the commentators understanding of the process
       was appalling.

I have given up on them , in UEFA/FIFA competitions I thought it
would be given , had it been given I doubt anything would have
been said but imo I thought it would have been harsh

There's no way you'd see that given in the Prem, but 9 times out
of 10 you'd see it given in the Champions League. The only
reason I'm annoyed it wasn't given is because it isn't
consistent with other decisions in UEFA competitions so far.
Away from that, his positioning has been somewhat questionable,
getting in the way of 2 RMA and 1 LIV promising attack.

I guess I have to take back the praise I give uefa for its
       consistency on the issue.
I think he got the vini going down in the other box correct as
well, not a penalty not a dive.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't think that VAR
would/should intervene in an on field decision given as a free
kick outside of the penalty area? I thought they would only
intervene if a penalty was incorrectly awarded - which it
       wasn't.

The points made above aside I think Kovacs has done very well .
       Kept calm didn’t get flustered

As I understand it, they determined that the foul for which the
free kick was awarded occurred inside the penalty area. In such
instances, the incident is then reviewed as a penalty, if there
is no clear and obvious error the VAR advises the referee and a
penalty is awarded without OFR (factual overturn). If, as in
this case, they feel a clear and obvious error has occurred, the
referee must be called for OFR as VAR cannot factually overturn
the subjective element of the decision.

Referee gives handball and a free kick. Var intervenes as the
offence took place on the line of the penalty area, so the free
kick is upgraded to a penalty kick.
Var advises referee that the offence he penalised was inside the
area, so a penalty should be awarded. The referee feeds back to
var what he saw, which arm it hit and that he saw it as being in
an unatural position. Var advises the referee to visit screen as
the ball was deflected on to the arm of the defender from the
       his own leg.
Var advises referee to visit monitor to check his decision as
they think the arm is in a natural decision. Referee visits the
screen and overturns his decision to penalise the defender, if
he hadnt a penalty kick would have been awarded. Therefore the
var and referee actually overturned a penalty kick and not a
       free kick.
