He seems to be regarded now as France’s no. 2 after Pierre
Brousset. I am still very surprised that Tual Trainini, who I
rate very highly and who I expected to see becoming one of
France’s top refs after the retirements of Poite, Gauzere and
Raynal in quick succession, now seems to be being pushed down
the TMO and FPRO route with the likes of Cayre and Rozier now
picking up some minor internationals. It may of course be that
Trainini wanted to concentrate on these new posts but he is
still regarded highly in France judging by his Top 14
appointments. Maybe those who make the international
appointments don’t regard him in the same light sadly.

Bit of a mixed bag for the England games - 2 I'm very happy with
(Nika A and Paul W) and 2 I'm still not sure of (Andrea P and
Pierre B)
Hollie D appears to be the only female being considered for male
internationals and must be odds on for RWC27
Good spread elsewhere, opportunities for cementing or
progressing

I must say that was a masterclass of refereeing by Angus Gardner
in France South Africa.
Was a joy to watch such an entertaining game helped by ref

Back to his best IMHO. Got the level of chat/explanations right,
decisions were spot on. Brave but correct decision on the red
card, not "hiding" behind the FPR scheme. The speed and
intensity were high but he managed it all really well.
Williams was decent at Twickenham, consistent which was good. I
like his style. Needs bigger games to be tested
Berry was very good at Murrayfield. His use of the YC, even
after a try was scored, was commendable
Scotland can only be disappointed at themselves

My Twickenham correspondent said Williams was good but did add
he didn't have to do much.
Interesting that Gardner's permanent red card has split opinion.
Indeed Gardner initially felt inclined to go YC. However Nika A
disagreed and I think it was because he clearly saw a shoulder
charge and so the tackle was illegal. They got the right
decision imho but it does surprise me that some feel it was
harsh. That type of non- tackle has to be stamped out and if it
is direct to head, there can be no mitigation. Gardner was
excellent but there are times when he looks puzzled but still
communicates well and reaches the right decision. This was
evident when substitutions were being made or TMO having issues!
I'm off to Twickenham next week. The All Blacks surely won't be
so ill disciplined.

Exactly - even if the attacker had been upright it was no arms
tackle, designed to be dominant, was minimum YC from that side.

I thought Ben O'Keefe was excellent in Cardiff today.
I do, however, have a huge issue with the FPRO Monsieur Gauzins.
Whilst I understand that outcome has a huge influence on
punishment (example a player landing on his head as opposed to
back or side in an aerial challenge) I find it hard to accept
that a kick, which does not make contact, is any less punishable
than one that does, where neither has a place on rugby. At best
it should have been a 20 min red card; to me the Welsh centre
did not deserve to be allowed back on
Given Argentina's dominance it did not affect the result but I
am not sure referees the world over will be thanking the system
for this.

We are still not getting the red cards right and this time South
Africa can feel aggrieved! This shouldn't happen. Andrew Brace
had a good game and dealt with the head contact very well. Low
degree of danger and a dynamic situation. Penalty Only. Bang on.
I was at Twickenham and had a good day out ruined by people that
want to go past you - one 3 times in 1 half! However, a good
result for England and Andrea P had a very good game. Even
Stephen Jones went out of his way in the Sunday Times to praise
his performance, stating that it was the best he had seen from
him. As for the other games, I cannot comment except to say I
that enjoyed the Scotland V Argentina game and England need to
be wary of the Pumas.
