Must have been a correct VAR decision then it Hackett thinks it
was wrong. I am 100% certain that had Attwell not given the
penalty Hackett would have said that he should have given it.
He has zero credibility.

In the preface to the laws of the game referees are advised to
interpret the laws “in the spirit of the game”. In this case an
intelligent VAR might well have thought of asking the referee to
review the decision on the basis of saying he thinks the referee
should check whether the contact with the forward was inside or
outside the penalty area. That would give the referee the
option to review his decision to issue the yellow card even if
he felt the contact was just a coming together. However, the
guidance to apply the laws “in the spirit of the game” largely
comes a long way behind applying the “letter of the law”.

Should have also reviewed dogso, defender only gets across to
cover because of the trip and it was 2 forwards v 1 defender,
keeper took himself out of the play
