Sam Barrott - Everton v West Ham

Another player that should’ve been dismissed for showing dissent
for getting a yellow card.
Dewsbury-Hall receives a YC for a challenge on Walker-Peters,
Barrott gives him a YC. He looks at him in disbelief, slaps the
turf in frustration before Barrott explains his decision.
Dewsbury-Hall walks away, beats the turf numerous more times
then turns around and shouts at Barrott.
Where is the punishment for dissent? Sort it out PGMOL

A real mixed bag this evening, has done ok in parts but the
booking of Dewsbury-Hall seemed very strange, unless he’s booked
him for dissent rather than the foul, for which we will never
know.
Some odd decisions in the second half which has aggravated both
benches, but the Mykolenko swinging arm into Paqueta looked
quite deliberate. I’m surprised VAR didn’t come in for a violent
conduct examination.
Also surprised Magassa avoided a card in the first half for
cleaning out Grealish.

Whilst I agree with you, he had every right to be angry.
Appallingly poor decision to penalise him for a free kick.
Barrett’s main issue for me is his foul detection can be too
random. His general handling and demeanour is one I approve of
though, certainly compared to Madley, Jones and Pawson.

Could you clarify please whether you think Barrott has a better
demeanour than the three you illustrated, or whether you think
all four officials have a demeanour of a similar ilk?

Thought he was below par. At least two clear yellow card tackles
in the first half, for which he gave the free kick, but no
further sanction. And therein lies the problem with this current
batch of SG1 officials, there is seemingly zero consistency,
it’s as though the players have to adapt to each referees style
in any given game, because I guarantee, those two tackles in
particular would have been yellows for the majority of referees,
and lesser tackles will be punished in this weekends games. That
alone cannot be right. These guys really need to get their heads
together and start singing from the same hymn sheet, as
currently, it’s a complete and utter mess unfortunately.

Consistency is one thing that football fans crave from officials
and it’s one thing we are never going to get unless we want the
game to be officiated by AI. I appreciate your point and it is a
good one, we do want the highest level of consistency that we
can possibly reach and it seems as if every week, certainly in
the VAR booth, that some officials are letting each other down
with baffling calls.
I did not watch the whole match tonight and didn’t see those
‘clear’ YC challenges but we have to remember that each referee
is a human being and some may have a different approach to
refereeing a match as someone else might’ve. Players do have to
adjust to what tolerance level the referee sets, that’s just how
it is. There are around 20 different SG1 officials, to say every
single decision should have the same outcome from each official
is simply impossible.

Moyes has laid into refereeing standards and Dewsbury Hall isn't
happy either as he has picked up a 5th booking which is some
feat. BBC Sport link isn't a good read.

Refereeing is becoming too difficult in England because of the
greater tolerance of physical contact which in itself leads to
inconsistency, the different acceptance as to what is or isn't
handball etc. Dissent is to readily accepted.
Webb said that they went to clubs and asked what they wanted and
so changes in England were made to how handball would be
penalised. England declaring UDI! Dale Johnson often defends non
decisions by adding words like this would be given in Europe
implying again that Engish referees work to different standards!
For example, Johnson said that the goal United scored wouldn't
have been allowed because of the foul on the keeper. Deflections
off body on to the hand appear to be interpreted differently.
However, players and coaches behaviour does not help. Dissent is
too obvious, diving or simulation encouraged, initiating contact
to get a foul, and pushing and holding in the box. No wonder
referees struggle, they appear to be inconsistent in decision
making etc.
I loved watching lower tier rugby, I think I might just watch
local league football. Honest players, honest decisions!

Tbh, I actually thought KDH’s YC was actually quite supportable.
When you see it on the replay, yes he got a touch on the ball
first but then he follows through onto Walker-Peters with his
studs on top of the boot/around the ankle area. I didn’t think
he could have too many complaints in my opinion.
As I’ve already said I’m more disappointed that no action was
taken on the continual dissent from KDH. It was quite clear the
YC was for the challenge cause Barrott had his card out
immediately.

Five yellow cards in six games for Dewsbury-Hall and yet he
thinks it's the referees who have a problem. Perhaps a little
self-reflection on why he is the first Premier League player to
hit that mark this season would be a more useful response.

For goodness sake, why? The game has its Laws, the referees' job
is to apply them. This is far from easy in the current
situation, but Mr Webb's preoccupation should be to see that
these Laws are rigourously applied. It is the job of the club
management to ensure that players and coaches adhere to them,
adapting to a stricter approach. Yes, fans, journalists and
pundits will moan, but the game will be better for it.
