I go back to it, Joelinton does this game in, game out.
Referees let him get away with murder each and every time.
Years this has been going on. Many of his teammates very
similar, like Bruno, Gordon, Schar, even Burn, seem to be more
than just a little aggressive too many times.

Well, things may have gone against them in the first, but things
have evened up at the end for Arsenal! Saliba’s arm is up way
above his head, and it’s stopped the ball progressing towards
the goal.
Once you see that on a review, hard to adjudge it isn’t a
penalty? His arm should be nowhere near up there?

It depends if you class incidental contact as playing the ball

I think to summarise, Gillett kept things from boiling over
which I think was the key in this game however he was by no
means perfect:
1. How on earth was Joelinton not sent off?
2. My point proven from yesterday about improper policing of the
technical area rule (Arteta not punished for screaming with
hands in the air halfway down the touchline yet Tindall was?)
3. A clear KMI error with Gabriel handball.
4. Question of whether Arsenal penalty should've stood (my
opinion was VAR was right however many would disagree).

This has become a very tough fixture to officiate in recent
years and seems to attract more than its fair share of
controversy. Today was no exception.
My view is VAR should be leaving the Arsenal penalty alone. I
would have liked Gillett to have rejected the review and stick
with the original decision. Still a foul regardless of the
goalkeeper touch for me.
Newcastle goal - correct, no foul on Gabriel.
Gabriel handball penalty - lucky boy. I’m even more confused
than ever about what is punishable now vs what isn’t in the
Premier League. Wonder if the earlier marginal VAR decision
weighed in Darren England’s mind..
Joelinton - had no right to remain on the field

I think this explanation from ifab makes the handball decision
supportable
A handball offence is not committed when a player:
heads, kicks or plays the ball with another part of their body
and it then hits their own hand/arm (unless the ball goes
directly into the opponents’ goal or the player scores
immediately afterwards)

hi,
so much going on towards the end, i would imagine team ref (and
stockley park) are glad it's over [emoji15].
as a previous poster has pointed out, this fixture is sadly
becoming very problematic to officiate and i thought JG did
well, especially in the final minutes after arsenal's second
[emoji106].
will be interesting to hear what anthony taylor has to say about
allowing arteta (in gary neville's words) to 'throw on the
entire kitchen sink' [emoji1]

He doesn't play the ball. It’s a block. And when the arm is,
like in this case, so high in the air that’s it’s not
justifiable at all isn’t the expectation a penalty/free kick
anyway?

Not really as that was taken out of law a couple of years ago,
that Football Rules site unfortunately isn't kept up to date and
is pretty useless. This is all that the current laws say about
handball, there's no longer anything about a deflection ...
It is an offence if a player:
•  deliberately touches the ball with their hand/arm, for
example moving the hand/arm towards the ball
•  touches the ball with their hand/arm when it has made
their body unnaturally bigger. A player is considered to have
made their body unnaturally bigger when the position of their
hand/arm is not a consequence of, or justifiable by, the
player’s body movement for that specific situation. By having
their hand/arm in such a position, the player takes a risk of
their hand/arm being hit by the ball and being penalised
