Another great decision by a referee to book a player for diving.

Josh King needs to learn to stop diving like that. Two cards in
two games for simulation.
VAR has been busy so far, definitely not a penalty for the King
challenge, and the handball against Cash would be very harsh
indeed.
An excellent quick flag by Taylor early doors as well.

It is certainly not a dive TTFL. Very very harsh to say that
about King. It’s a blatant foul. Shocking from Madley to book
him.

Dreadful decision by the referee imo , clear contact by the
keeper on his leg even if you think it's not a penalty that is
no way on earth a dive . I keep reading about players and
coaches not understanding the laws and often that is right but
here we see clear evidence of officials not understanding
football. It is my opinion that if you are going to caution for
simulation you are calling said player a cheat , if you're going
to do that you must be absolutely right . This isn't even close.

I agree with the last two posters (charlieboy and craven) on the
topic that It’s certainly not a dive as there is clear contact
on the feet.
However, this incident is the type of situation that I hate
because an attacker can knock the ball away from the keeper and
continue to run forward into the goalkeeper without trying to go
for the ball and more often than not wins a penalty.
This is exactly what happens here. Josh King gets there first
but he doesn’t change his movement to go and play the ball. He
continues to run into Martinez who’s trying to spread himself to
save the ball. The goalkeepers intention is not to trip him,
it’s to make himself big and save the ball. I don’t believe it’s
a penalty but it’s certainly not simulation.

There is clear contact - after he’s has dived. He’s well on his
way down before there is contact - simulation first then contact
with the goal keeper. Correct call by Madley in my opinion.
I would respectfully disagree with Charlieboy about simulation
requiring referees to have an extra degree of certainty before
being penalised. I think that’s part of the reason players do it
so often. It’s just another law, not a condemnation of a player,
if a referee identifies simulation, he/she should take
appropriate action. They should not be worried for one moment
about a player being labeled a cheat. If the referee is wrong,
one of the 20+ cameras will quickly tell us anyway.

I will agree to disagree, that's what forums are about.

Missed a clear yellow when Buendia pulled back Bassey right in
front of the assistant too.
Thought Castagne was also lucky not to be carded for his
challenge on McGinn.
A bit of a mixed bag from Madley this afternoon..

Not the sort of game Madley would have been looking for.
Extremely difficult to officiate, and Fulham will feel aggrieved
at 2 tight calls going against them. 50-50 both for me. But a
better day for Madley in his general handling I thought, so fair
play to him for that at least after his nightmare week.
Would others agree?
