Rob Jones Man City v Burnley

Generally fine, though his foul detection a tad inconsistent.
Was puzzled at an incident regarding substitutions in the second
half. Play had been stopped for a Burnley free-kick and there
were two subs for each side lined up to come on. Mr Jones
allowed the Burnley substitutions but not the Man City ones,
which didn't take place until 3 minutes later. One of the
players to be subbed, Reijnders had come over from the opposite
side to go off, but then had to be allowed to get back in
position before the free-kick was taken. It all felt rather
clumsy, is there some guidance referees are given regarding this
situation?

Is it possible that city didnt want to make the subs when
defending a set piece but burnley wanted theirs made then?

I watched most of the game yesterday… the manager clearly
cancelled the substitution as they were defending a set play!
Nothing to do with the officials at all.
Nothing to see here!

Thanks, it wasn't that clear inside the ground.

the strangest thing in the game...
walker (right back) gets treatment for an injury then goes off
for the mandatory 30 seconds. play remains in and around this
area of the pitch, the ref waves him on at the same time as city
play the ball to doku (left winger). walker enters the pitch,
intercepts and breaks. ref stops play and restarts with a drop
ball to city.
right in law? nope...right common sense outcome? yep...though
poor initially to not see it coming
burnley weren't happy but city would have been fuming (rightly)
if the break hd led to a goal.
