SG1 Royalty up at Crewe!!
Indeed, I’d be interested to hear from our esteemed Crewe
correspondents as to the last time SG1 was at Gresty Road!
Robinson at Luton aswell.
Can’t wait to watch him. The second only premier league referee
I’ve seen live. The first was Jon Moss.
Early kick off but I may be there. Shades of SG! Lee Probert
refereeing at Crewe Alex whilst returning from serious injury a
few years back, and hopefully Paul's performance will be as good
as Lee's was that afternoon - exemplary and not a hint of
'beneath me'.

Just noticed that Gillingham have got back-to-back helpings of
SG2 royalty.
Leigh Doughty vs Newport last weekend and now James Bell vs
Harrogate this weekend.

First time we have had Oliver Mackey at Stockport. Has anyone
seen him before?

SG1 Royalty up at Crewe!!
I’ve just had a thought. Whether done intentionally or not, the
last 2 times Notts County have visited Crewe they haven’t been
best pleased with the officials. In the 23/24 season, Simon
Mather went off injured in second half stoppage time, and the
replacement Richard Wigglesworth gave Crewe a penalty in the
100th min for handball, flagged by AR2 Danny Gratton to which
coins were thrown at him. Then last season, Steven Copeland gave
Crewe a dodgy penalty where our striker actually fell over the
ball! So having an SG1 referee on this game is rather fitting
considering the last couple of years.

Paul Tierney - Crewe v Notts County
It’s happened again! For 3 years in a row when County visit
Crewe, Crewe have been given 3 pens in second half stoppage
time, to all win the game. I’m sure County fans won’t like
visiting Crewe anymore! It was brave refereeing to give the pen,
a shirt pull, in the 94th minute with the score 1-1. Paul showed
his experience throughout the whole game, not fooling for any
trickery (mainly diving) from County players. 2 bookings in 4
mins, 1 each, with the Crewe one after 18 seconds and it was
certainly a booking. I’m not sure how Jodi Jones survived
without getting a card. 7 times during the game he threw himself
to the floor hoping for a foul!! If you think you’re going to
trick an experienced prem ref like that, then think again. It
really was a breath of fresh air having this appointment of
referee. Normally, fans sing “can we play you every week?” when
the opposite team is awful. However, today I’m singing “can we
have you every week?” to Paul Tierney! I’ll happily have him for
the rest of our games this season. Not many refs are going to
beat him in a very very tough game to manage. I’m one happy man!
A much needed win today. Josh March again ole ole!

That’s a nice report to read. Hopefully it won’t be long and
Tierney’s back in the Premier League.
And, to be fair to Tierney, he did give a penalty for shirt
pulling in his game last week at Cheltenham. So at least he’s
consistent with that.

A good and accurate report, summing up how good Paul was this
afternoon, and certainly none of the 'beneath me' attitude about
him as an SG1. A thoroughly entertaining game, thank you teams
and well done Paul and team. PS I gasped when the Crewe fans
started singing 'Jones is a w****r' until I realised they were
referring to an errant NC player. I will say no more!

Yes I saw that. I think any ref should be giving it really. Paul
with a great view. Best ref I’ve seen in a while live.

Wasn’t too impressed by Ben Atkinson at Bradford. Competent
enough but indecisive with cautions. We picked up 3, all for SPA
(all near halfway) but two of the decisions were very delayed,
and Blackpool somehow avoided a yellow when their fullback
brought down one of our players heading into the box. Everything
else was easy enough but need to see him again to judge how far
he might go.
A couple of “controlled play” by a defender incidents for AR2,
both flagged. One right one wrong.

I've seen and have no issue with the penalty Mr Tierney awarded
in the Crewe v Notts County game. Agree it is good to see him
back in the middle again
Haven't seen, but Notts fans aggrieved that what they though was
a similar challenge on Luker down the opposite end didn't result
in a spot-kick. I'd be interested in Ryan/ATs thoughts on that.
