Congratulations to Armenia on a fantastic result, their
passionate and animated manager and fans must be overjoyed.
Tough, hardworking and more quality than expected. Everything
Ireland were not. 2-1 flattered Ireland, I don’t know if we have
any Armenian members here - if so, enjoy your evening!
Now onto the referee. I saw a lot I liked. First though the
negative - I felt he missed 4/5 very blatant fouls. Maybe 1/2
YCs. That sounds bad, but it was a physical match, and they were
very isolated incidents, rather than systematic errors. He also,
when he wanting to speak to the captains, tapped his arm where
the captains armband would be. I recommend he stops this, as it
looks like he is considering a handball.
Now the positives, the penalty was called correctly IMO. Seemed
to be AR2 that called it. VAR disallowed Armenia’s third goal,
no fault on the AR, it was razor tight and he made other good
calls in the game. I really liked the referees communication.
His acceptance from the players was really very good. Great body
language and a lovely smile in tense moments - but equally able
to be stern. Great image presented I felt.
I read on Law5 this referee is being looked at for bigger
appointments, based on this showing, I feel he has a lot of
       potential.
As for Ireland - I think it will be only the referees I have to
       support at WC2026!!
