Republic of Ireland v Hungary Harm Osmers

Good to see a referee identify and rightly punish SFP, that, in
real time, I do not think was all that obvious. Excellent
decision. Good YC for Irish player for getting involved
(stupidly) in the aftermath. However, he perhaps could have
avoided the incident by awarding Sallai a FK a few moments
earlier - but players have to control themselves.
Pretty impressed with the German referee thus far, good presence
and quite an elegant style.

Thought he handled it very well. Szallai is an idiot & cost us
that game. Up until then it was all one way - after that it was
all one way in the other direction! Thought the ref did well to
keep a lid on it, it got very tetchy at times.
I only have 2 complaints - 1 how was O'Brian not booked in the
first half, he really should have been - for persistent fouling
if nothing else and he wore y****w!

On review, I think we were a tad lucky to not have our first
goal ruled out. Can't fault the referee too much in real time,
so hard to see everything in the box.
Not always the best football (especially from Ireland!!) but was
exciting stuff in the end and felt the referee did well on the
whole. Look forward to the game in Budapest!

I’ve not seen the game, but there seems to be a bit of chatter
that VAR should have got involved and sent him to the screen for
a review.
