Last time i checked referees were not qualified doctors, they
should stop the game if a suspected head injury.
Newcastle used a concussion which means your talking rubbish
       about him feigning injury.

I think newcastle are luck not being down to 9 after Bruno's
over the top of the ball tackle, could have easily been a 2nd
       yellow

Yet Van Dijk was practically ******* (edited not necessary
)first half and no yellow card for dissent

Slightly inconsistent in the beginning however I think he done a
relatively good job considering how difficult an assignment this
       was.

I actually think Simon Hooper had a good game. I think other
referees would have totally lost control. Newcastle looked like
they went out there to rattle Liverpool and they certainly did
that, but too aggressively. Great game and fair play to
Newcastle for getting back in the game.
As others have said nailed on red for Gordon and Bruno lucky not
to follow but overall I think team ref can be pleased

I thought Simon Hooper had an excellent game in which was a
tense, tenacious and fiery affair and he was probably the only
one in the whole stadium to keep a calm head for 103 minutes.
He never let his guard down. He was alert to any red mist that
may have arose between the sides. His foul detection level
remained consistent. He went to the yellow cards when absolutely
necessary and very good from John Brooks in Stockley Park,
correctly asking Hooper to review his initial YC for Gordon to a
       RC for Serious Foul Play.
If I see any criticism of Hooper, then I ask you to think, this
game was going to be challenging for any referee tonight. If it
was Taylor, Brooks, Kavanagh, I think they all would’ve
struggled to keep a lid on it. Hooper struggled to make himself
dominant times but he never let the match become over fractious
and that is credit to him.

Some may well be - Ovidiu Hațegan, for example, is a
qualified Doctor. There are a couple in England who are either
nurses, paramedics or Doctors, I recall them being singled out
for praise for the work they were doing during covid. The vast
majority aren't, granted, but there are some with medical
       qualifications.
Edited to add - there are others who are in jobs where they have
above average medical knowledge, prison officers and police
officers, for example, who can be required to deal with medical
incidents on a regular basis and have training to enable them to
       do so.
I agree though about stopping the game for any suspected head
injury and the new directive/law change that they then have to
leave the pitch for 30 seconds although personally I would make
it 2+ minutes as concussion does not necessarily show up
immediately, allow no substitution during that period, even a
concussion sub. The stage will be reached very quickly where the
only ones who go down with a suspected head injury are those who
potentially do actually have one instead of the far far too many
       fakers...

As above - I don't think any PL referee would have done much
better. I actually think Hooper's excellent communication with
the players keeps a lid on fiery clashes such as this one
tonight. This game needed a Hooper in the middle as opposed to a
       PGMOL droid type.
Yes he didn't get everything right, however I thought he was
very good. 8/10 for me tonight for Hooper.

It was never going to be an easy game for any official because
of what has been happening off the field. However, I think that
Simon Hooper was excellent and dealt with eveything in a very
efficient way and credit to him for keeping at least 21 players
on the field, in spite of the silly antics of some players who
could easily have been given their marching orders.
Toon will be disappointed with the result, however, their
players did their best but were beaten by an excellent goal at
the end of a good move. How will they fare at Leeds on Saturday
       is anyone's guess.
Well done Simon Hooper for your contribution to one hell of a
       game.

Happy to correct my earlier statement. Red card. Hooper not at
his best but hard to show off in a game where both sides are
guilty of blatant episodes of theatrics. Joelinton and Bruno
always looking to get involved with someone. The latter should
have been sent off for two yellows. Van dijk gets away with
continued dissent. Did ok first half but only so much can be
tolerated and he should have clamped down more. Easy thing to
       say post match however.
Also a couple of incidents of holding on Burn a lot worse than
       Fulham game yesterday- consistency?
