Could be a very tricky task tonight for Simon Hooper. Hope he
has an excellent game in what will be a feisty and raucous
atmosphere.
Already a mark down though, wearing yellow…

I hope it will make a difference when people get to see what the
ref sees vs what the 20+ high definition, zoomed in, slo-mo
images the TV companies like to show

A very lenient start from Hooper with a possible two cards not
brandished to Trippier and JoeLinton.
Gravenberch got a card for a foul, and I do think they could be
a chance of this not ending 11 a side if this hostile match
develops further.

A lenient start indeed.
What is frustrating me most is dissent. Every call, players
surrounding, throwing their arms up, laughing at and shouting at
the referee.
Honestly, I wish he could just send them off. I don't know who
thinks this is a good look or enjoyable to watch. behaving like
spoilt children (at best).
Not Hooper's fault I know (though he doesn't have the best body
language IMO), he is only doing what he is told, but letting
people scream at you and undermine your decisions is not good
game management - its just weak refereeing.

Anthony Gordon is gone I think…. Terrible challenge on Van Dijk.
As for Chris Sutton, he is a terrible pundit. One minute he’s
calling it’s just a yellow, then changes tack and calls for a
red.

Clear SFP, correct and swift intervention, very well handled OFR
and explanation. Though, really I think these should be gotten
on field.

Poor late challenge from Gordon but not a red for me. I’ve seen
worse challenges go unpunished

Felt like a red card was always coming. I think good use of VAR
- the force/speed of the challenge was an important factor
(probably even more so than point of contact) and was notable
how the wide angle/full speed camera was the first one shown to
Hooper .

The fact that the challenge peels down his sock from top to
bottom shows how bad it was, that is a very clear red card.
