Also, what was Bruno Fernandes waffling on about in his post
match interview saying he was upset with Kavanagh for
accidentally moving into him before the penalty. Accidents
happen for goodness sake.
How on earth has he become a professional footballer with an
attitude like that. He wouldn’t have said anything about that if
he scored. Absolutely embarrassing behaviour

A good game of football well refereed by the on field officials,
spoilt by an official in an office at Stockley Park.
Apparently VAR thinks the shenanigans between Bassey and Mount
which was penalised, happened slightly before Shaws rugby
tackle, thus nullifying Shaws efforts. they appeared to be at
the same time to me.
According to VAR It is now ok for an attacker to push a defender
in the back to allow him to score.
Certain people in the VAR booths are ruining what was a
pleasure, spectating at football matches, in my opinion.
Only down side to Kavs performance was the visit he will be
making to missy bmbs naughty step.
For the second week running i found it difficult to see AR2
against the background of the adverts displaying in that bright
colour.

Rob Green has just done a very good analysis I think on MOTD.
Summary:
1. VAR shouldn't have got involved with giving the penalty
against Bassey because Shaw committed a seperate foul a matter
of yards away.
2. Had a dig at Bruno for his moaning about his penalty routine
being interrupted by Kav.
3. 100% a foul on Bassey by Yoro, why didn't VAR intervene here
when it felt the need to earlier on?
Main point: INCONSISTENCY GALORE!, a week on Howard's naughty
step I think for England and less so Kav.

In the good old days these two incidents, neither given, would
have just balanced each other out. As Neville said, at least we
used to know you could get away with anything.
I would take this out of VAR jurisdiction, reason being you will
find a foul one way or the other at every corner if you look
hard enough. Consistency from VAR is as impossible as it is on
field, so just don’t bother. If it’s given on field, support it.
If it’s not, support it…nothing is clear and obvious in a box
full of jostling bodies anyway.

Well we can’t really blame Chris Kavanagh for any mistakes he
made after that I suppose. He was triggered and put off by that
collision with Fernandes, frankly he was brave to soldier on at
all!

The good thing is that all commentators have seen right through
this Fernandes rubbish. But I expect we will now have to have
refs turn up at training grounds to walk into players taking
pens just so they’ve rehearsed that too!
But on a serious point, though I’m well against any further
rugby-fication of football, penalties have become an absolute
circus. Both run-ups yesterday took forever. Maybe it’s time for
a penalty to be like a shootout? Kicker v goalkeeper, everyone
else in the centre. Kick dead on completion, and a time limit
from whistle to contact. If you miss the time cos you’re faffing
your run up, you forfeit. Like in a rugby conversion or a tennis
shot clock. 54321 (like the gk) done.

Not sure the stats support that Dave based on this ESPN article
for season 2024/25, at least as far as Oliver is concerned.
England, yes. I would suggest Oliver had a better season as VAR
than he did as a PL Referee last season, a strange contrast with
his performances for UEFA and FIFA where by all accounts he did
well. Anthony Taylor was perhaps the reverse.
Referees: the best and the worst as the VAR
Percentages are always going to be much higher for VARs, because
they are being judged to a higher subjective threshold -- and,
as such, fewer errors can be made.
Stuart Attwell was statistically one of the worst VARs in
2023-24. Now, he's the best and has shown why he's regularly
selected for international tournaments. Across 30 appointments,
and 64 KMIs, the panel didn't record a single mistake for him.
Indeed, from 320 votes, on only eight occasions did a panelist
disagree with his decision.
Craig Pawson and Andy Madley also have a 100% record, but from
less than half the number of games.
Another with a perfect record is James Bell, an EFL referee who
began working as a VAR in the Premier League in the second half
of the season as part of an accelerated program to created
dedicated VARs from outside the top-flight list.
We have to call out Michael Oliver here too: across 35 KMIs, he
had just the one mistake and five votes against -- when the
panel voted 5-0 that he incorrectly stepped in to award the
stoppage-time penalty to West Ham against Man United. Without
that, he would have also had a 100% record.
Paul Tierney's average is kept down by two errors on serious
foul play, missing the red cards for Estupiñán and Tarkowski --
and that's a trend to last season when he should have intervened
twice.
At the other end of the table, Darren England -- who was on VAR
for the Lewis-Skelly red card -- has the lowest percentage of
those to act as a video assistant regularly. Both he and Matt
Donouhue (part of the accelerated program, like Bell) made three
errors
I didn't think Kav was at his best in this game with a couple of
YCs missed, but we don't know what he did or didn't see for the
United penalty or the United goal with Yaro's push in the back
on the defender. Disappointing from England though.

Shambles? Your opinion which you are of course entitled to but
Ref Watch agreed the official got it right in the Fulham game.
As indeed I did at the time. You simply cannot put your arm
around someone's waist and throw them to the ground.
As for United's goal, they agreed that there was possibly a
"push" but again, go with the on field decision.
Edited to confirm Dale Johnson agrees with the decisions by the
officials.
I am surprised at the views expressed herein tbh.
