Darren England : Chelsea vs Crystal Palace

In my opinion until two years ago I thought Darren was a
excellent referee with player management being one of his
strengths , I think the Liverpool vs Tottenham debacle ( where
England as VAR was hot topic of that match ) since he returned
to the fold ( I applaud him for being strong and bouncing back )
but I think he has come back with a manufactured robotic style
this was also evident last season he gives Yellow cards nearly
all the time he’s card happy and seems to have lost his
management ability
As for the Eze disallowed free kick I think it was very harsh
but would welcome others opinions

For the Eze disallowed goal,
- The 1m law (from a defensive wall) is quite clearly in the law
book
- James Bell spotted this and correctly called Darren England
over to check himself
- The correct decision was reached and the explanation to the
crowd was done perfectly by Darren England
A very good process (imo)
And James Bell is an excellent VAR

A great scenario for having the referee mic’d up to explain. Is
that the first time VAR has been used to penalise that
particular offence?

It can only be disallowed. Was Guehi within 1m of the Chelsea
wall, clearly he was and therefore it is very much a black and
white decision.

In law that’s the correct decision. Chris Sutton on the Sky
commentary saying ‘some things in football don’t feel right and
that doesn’t feel right’ is vexatious and a complete disregard
for the LOTG.
Great spot from Bell and as already stated, seemingly a good
process. My only thought, is that a clear and obvious error or
VAR re-refereeing the game for something that was missed on
field from a set-piece?

This is why I and others are constantly told by grassroots
players (Steps 4, 5 and 6 in my case) daft stuff that they
repeat from these “experts”. The BBC Football Website calls this
correct interpretation of Law 13 a “little-known rule”. Where
to begin with that?

The Crystal Palace disallowed goal is very similar to a goal
Chelsea scored against Bournemouth last season where Cucurella
was too close to the wall and VAR didn't intervene. Dale Johnson
said at the time he'd confirmed with IFAB when the law was
brought in that this particular law was not in VAR's remit. I
thought that seemed silly as the VAR protocol allows VAR to get
involved in offences leading up to a goal, which this surely is.
So I also emailed IFAB to confirm and got this response:
"This is not a matter for the VAR as the protocol does not
permit involvement in the taking of restarts except in major Law
error incidents such as a goal being scored directly from a
throw-in or indirect free kick."
If VAR wasn't allowed to get involved last season, why are they
this season? Has the protocol changed or has someone got it
wrong either this time or last time?

Most of the "rules" (sic) are little known to the uneducated.

I can only assume they misunderstood your question. The only
restriction in the VAR protocol in relating to restarts is this
...
The Laws of the Game do not allow restart decisions (corner
kicks, throw-ins etc.) to be changed once play has restarted,
so they cannot be reviewed
That means if the officials have given a corner when it should
have been a goal kick and a goal is scored from it VAR cannot
get involved.
It also lists this as a category for which VAR are permitted to
get involved in ...
attacking team offence in the build-up to or scoring of the
goal (handball, foul, offside etc.)
Guehi was a member of the attacking team, clearly committed an
office, and a goal was scored. Therefore it absolutely matches
that permitted involvement criteria.

The less I have to listen to the drivel Sutton spews out the
better.
As for the purple kit… 🙄😂
