I have known Tom Kirk a long time and also observed him, in
last nights game i thought there were times when he should have
dealt with offending players ie at least two Fleetwood players
should have been cautioned for offences, he did give a free-kick
but they were both reckless challenges, and if he had maybe he
would not have had to administered 11 cautions in the second
half, I would agree he played an excellent advantage in the
first half which led to Crewe's second goal.
I am very pleased he has been promoted to the next level and has
the makings of an excellent referee for the future, but this was
not one of his best performances last night.

Watched Gillingham v Chesterfield last night on Sky+ and I don’t
really know how to describe Craig Hicks’ performance because I
thought he was excellent for the large majority of the game -
his foul detection was very good and consistent, yellow cards
seemed all correct and looked to be an excellent refereeing
       performance.
The problem is that the incident leading to the first Gillingham
penalty - he got horribly wrong. It was a stinker if I’m being
honest. It was a poor back pass from the chesterfield defender
which the GK and Gills forward contested. The GK clearly won the
ball with a bit of a slide tackle and he got a little bit of the
forward in the aftermath of the challenge too - he wasn’t high
or anything, just a bit of a natural collision. Unfortunately he
did give a penalty and led to the score 1-0.
I thought the other penalty decision was correct - a clear trip
       on the forward.
An excellent refereeing performance overshadowed by a stinker of
       a decision.

Unfortunately we had yet another woeful performance from Greg
Rollason at Altrincham v Hartlepool last night.
The better team won so there is no element of sour grapes.
It was, once again, a "look at me, I'm in charge: showing.
Decisions were, at best, inconsistent. The most bizarre being in
the second half when the CB fell over, the CF ran 3 or 4 yards,
gathered possession and set off for goal. He'd gone 10 yards
when Mr Rollason blew his whistle and penalised the CF for a
shirt pull. The CB was observed to smirk and to say "F*&k me,
       Where's he got that from?"
The most disappointing for me, standing with one of my mentees,
was when he stood 25 metres from a player who msy, or may not
have made a comment. If so very quietly as nobody else heard it
seemingly. He bellowed ( and it was a proper bellow) "Sassi..get
       here..NOW" and pointed at him.
This was contrary to everything I was always taught and
subsequently advised and to how I have hopefully guided my
       mentees over the years.
Full time he walked off without even acknowledging players or
       Management.
Probably incorrectly I suggested to my mentee that there were a
number of outstanding examples of how NOT to Referee a game.

Sounds like a rough night for a lot of officials! Hopefully some
early season rust. Hoping for a strong showing from Aaron
       Bannister on Saturday!

Not surprised. Paul Marsden is a good referee.
