Leigh Doughty and Richard Woodward must be car sharing at the
moment.
They're not actually allowed to car share. Even if they live in
the same street! Main reason being if a reason arises that holds
them up on their travel, major accident or something that causes
long delays, if they are in the same car that's 2 or more of the
team who may be late or not arrive in time for kick off, whereas
if they are in separate cars there is more chance 1 of them can
divert and use a different route.
Yet down the levels you are forced to car share to minimise
costs for clubs even it is cheaper to travel separately!!

Ed Duckworth with one of the most impressive displays I’ve seen
at Valley Parade in some time! Despite what some others have
said about him, every time we’ve had him I’ve always been fairly
pleased but today he went up a level. Very very good. Same on
Tuesday Mr Parsons! (I’ve not got much hope…)

Thank god I don’t have to watch Alan Young now… instead it’s Seb
Stockbridge
'Be careful what you wish for' might be an appropriate
summing-up of Seb's performance as a replacement for Alan Young
at Gresty Road this afternoon. Despite his many years of
relevant experience, Seb never seemed to be in control of the
Crewe v Crawley game. His constant whistling for minor
transgressions (seen and unseen from my seat in the Stand) was
an irritation from the start, and he seemed totally unable to
establish good lines of communication with the players which was
needed in a game of this sort. Midway through the frist half, he
had to hurriedly retract a yellow card after a Crawley player
pointed out to him that the Crewe player was offside prior to
the foul and AR2 was waving his flag to indicate thus. Having
taken the lead, Crewe then had a 2nd goal controversially
disallowed for offside, much to the annoyance of the home fans.
I was in line and, whilst the scorer was definitely not offside,
a colleague nearby was and I think the decision to chalk the
goal off was probably correct. Seb either forgot to take his
marker spray with him or he dropped it, and he had to hurriedly
get some more from the 4O. And just 3 minutes of added time at
the end of the game with Crewe hanging on to a 1-0 lead.. We
were delighted in the Main Stand but the Crawley players and
management were definitely not and, as I left the stadium, Seb
was having his ear chewed by them. Not a good day for the
'Silver Fox' and I wondered how Alan Young would have fared if
he had been in charge.

Perhaps we would have been better off with Alan Young, he
couldn't have been any worse than Seth was yesterday, he was
inconsistent in his recognition of offences and as said his lack
of communications with player's didn't help. I got the
impression he thought the game was about him not the players.
Not the best day at the office

I wasn't there, but Declan Bourne not getting any praise for his
handling of Rovers v Gillingham. Main failing seemed to be poor
foul detection, but Rovers manager Andy Crosby felt both goals
were offside in the 1-1,so maybe Messrs Burgess and Soneye were
below par too. Purely from the footage, it was hard to tell
rgarding the offside calls.

I’m certainly happy about Crewe’s appointment on the Tuesday
night….

And even more happy with your teams performance tonight?

Can’t fault Parsons tonight. First 10 I was a little concerned
with his whistling of cheap fouls, but he relaxed the whistle
from then on and played one stand out advantage in the first
half. Not much else to report - 3 correct cautions and 3 points
for the bantams!!

As the fourth goal went in, I said “what is going on?!?” What an
outstanding away performance!
Onto the most important matter - Tom Kirk. That’s what you call
a fantastic refereeing display. Everything was spot on tonight.
Despite there being 12 yellows (2 to Fleetwood management) every
one was correct. He didn’t get fooled by any tricks and was on
hand to most incident pretty swiftly. Rapport with players was
excellent and brought players in for a talking to when required.
Dealt with handbags fairly easily and the officials were in
great positions to spot everything that was going on. And a
fantastic advantage as well for the second Crewe goal.
A LOT more better than Mr Stockbridge at the weekend. I can
fully see why Tom has been given a fourth official prem duty, as
he fully deserves it. A big thumbs up from me.

Port Vale v Stevenage
Seb Stockbridge
Having read the reviews on Seb’s performance on Saturday I was
interested to see how he would perform. I have to say a very
mixed bag. Gave some very soft free kicks and then let very
obvious fouls go. He has great fitness levels. The bit that
really struck me was, he doesn’t seem to want to interact with
players. But, is that down to the rule of only the captains
talking to the referee? He just ran away from players or waved
them away. He did penalise the Stevenage goalkeeper for holding
the ball for more than 8 seconds.
I think he will have better days at the office.

Alex absolutely flying! 42 games to go but looking like a strong
contender early doors.
Colchester United FC (First Team) v Cambridge United FC (First
Team)
Football League 2
Referee: Eley, Richard
Assistant Referee: O'Meara, Colman
Assistant Referee: Whitaker, Ryan
Fourth Official: Carter, Richard
Onto our game, a pretty tricky, chaotic game to manage for
Richard Eley and team but unfortunately, I thought he did a
really poor job. I’ve seen Richard twice before, once very good
and once pretty bad and this third time was again the latter.
The summary that keeps coming to mind is “all bark and no bite”
- lots of chats with players and threats to book without
following up on them. That game definitely should not have ended
11 vs 11 - we don’t like to see red cards but we can’t excuse
them should they be needed but Richard was very weak. He pulled
players for chats a lot, at corners, for jostling off the ball,
yet when the ball was live again, it was like he forgot all
about it. Dom Ball should buy a lottery ticket - 3 (arguably a
4th) clear yellow card fouls but only one was punished - even
the Cambridge keeper gave the home fans a wry smile after seeing
his captain get away with it!
Several half hearted penalty shouts, all waved away correctly
and the yellows that were issued were all correct. AR1 had a bit
of a shocker first half missing a player stop the ball go out of
play with his hand as well as a couple of other things, but
better second half. AR2 looked good to me down the far end.
As for the 1st Cambridge goal - how very topical! Clearly a
Cambridge player was within 1 metre of the wall, but it wasn’t
punished - as far as i’m aware, unquestionably illegal by law
(do correct me if i’m wrong) but I imagine this will be the
latest law (like not second yellow for goalkeepers and the
previous 6 second rule) that will be quietly swept under the
rug.
Time added on was 2 minutes too low in both halves in my view -
and whilst Richard raised his “5 seconds” hand in good time, he
took the same approach as a parent would with a child and slowed
down the further it went down - which I think is slightly
humiliating for the game to have to treat adults like children.
All in all, very let down by Richard not wanting to put some
authority onto the game, which was very much needed in my view.
