Nice to see some Neil as VAR and Tim and Tom as AVAR, some
training/proper match practice going on there, as we have seen
for a while!
Do we know if ARs will be fully qualified and allowed to have
other ARs as AVAR or are the ARs that are circling round on VAR
fully qualified just with referees as AVAR? I am presuming we do
not have enough SG1 ARs to have 2 on VAR a few games a week and
2 as ARs every game every week.

No surprise to see a big gun out at Anfield on opening night.
Barrott for us, and I’ll be in attendance at the AMEX to give a
report on my first live viewing of him ( albeit in the home end
so i will be sitting on my hands most of the game!). At least
it’s only a half hour train trip to see my side rather than two
hours up to London!
We are in the vile green away kit so not expecting anything
other than black for the officials.
Not particularly looking forward to Donohue as VAR however,
after some high profile goofs last season.
Hooper with the big game, and a decent game for Pawson too.

Pleased enough with Rob Jones to welcome PL football back to the
Stadium of Light. Taylor to open feels somewhat inevitable
(either him or Oliver!)
Appointment of the round goes to Hooper - here’s hoping for a
good start all round!

Hooper on a big game? Manchester United were relegation material
last year! Yes, the sort of game his personality will suit given
the history of the 2 teams. Barrott back, let's hope he has a
good start as his performances tailed off slightly last season.
Otherwise, no surprises really.

Three referees (Taylor, Pawson and Gillett) are acting as 4th
Official the day after refereeing games.
Not acceptable as they could be called on to referee a full game
if the appointed official goes sick or almost a full game if an
early injury occurs. You would not expect a professional player
to complete a full game and then be a substitute on the
following day. Why do it to a referee?
Its far from ideal but if it was the other way round (4th
Official on day 1 and refereeing on Day 2) that would at least
give some time for a replacement to be found for the second game
if called on to officiate in the first game.
